The problem I have with some of the reviews is that the scores given in these reviews don't reflect the content of the reviews. Imagine a scientific paper where the concluding section seems to have appeared out of thin air.

)Hm, we don't know their scales anyway. Reviews are journalism, not science. Scores make sense on map collecting sites like yours, were I may chose to download all maps scoring more than 90 for example. But the ratings given in magazines are just useless numbers which are put out due to convention. Sometimes I think these scores reflect the opinion of the reviewer before actually testing the game. Which does not change that much despite any findings during gameplay.

Famitsu gave final fantasy 13 39/40. This is ofcourse wrong. I love that game but it's not so close to being perfect. Then they dare give final fantasy 13-2 a 40/40 which means that they aren't thinking about releasing a final fantasy 13-3, if you know what i mean. It's so obvious that something is wrong, they could at least try to hide it. Only a few days till the game comes out i'm gonna kill some metal giant cactuars with mustache.

It's very common for the magazine editors and higher ups at any publication (magazine, website, etc.) to insert their own scores to drum up a few more hits. Most writers hate giving scores, but they hate this practice even more.

I don't remember when was the last time that I used critical reviews to judge whether or not I would purchase a game. Generally, it came down to me waiting for about two months after release when all the hype died down, going to a random geeky IRC chatroom, and asking "Hey, is Game X any good?" Then I would appraise the general nature of the responses - mostly positive, mostly negative, or mixed - and then formulate my decision from there.

Where does one get the idea that 12 year long development of a game should be awesome? Because they are wasting the money of people funding them and you expect that the blood sweat and tears would actually be put into something worthwhile. Development hell has nothing to do with the failure of 3d realms. Development hell was brought upon themselves. Development hell is used when something takes too long to make progress. Nothing kept 3d Realms from progressing except probably the people managing the project. Think about it, if people could remake Duke 3d just for fun and better than DNF, then maybe their whole tactics was all wrong.
Valve didn't take 12 years and still manages to provide well thought out experiences for the players. More thought than what DNF got.

3D Realms was set back because they wanted the best graphics for duke... and every year, a new engine came out, yes it was on the original Quake engine as well... Not specifically, just that COD these days represents a company that makes no secret out of milking franchises purely for the money. Halo is mostly a pretty overrated series and MoH is alright but nothing special.
FourLococko doesn't really seem like much of a gamer though if he thinks there were no decent/excellent games released since past the 90's. You've got some catching up to do there buddy.
Also while I like playing Duke games and shit, if you're a guy and you want to be like Duke there must be something very wrong with your brain.

Games like Halo are OK (not played CoD), but average games. But because console gamers have never played any of these kinds of games on the PC, they think that they invented the genre and rave about how wonderful and industry-changing they are. Halo was a nice little shooter (really liked the design work), but it wasn't the epic event that console gamers made out it was. The PC had done it all before and just a bit better.
The console gamer ranting about how Halo owns everything else is like a guy who has never eaten anything other than fast food coming up to you and raving about how the McFlurry is the best Dessert that has ever been made by man. I love McFlurrys, but it is a long way from the best that you can get.

Because it's not out yet, silly person. I mentioned it because it's probably going to be a fucking awesome game, and you can only get it for PS3. It's an example of an excellent exclusive. There's others. Uncharted series, Demon's Souls, LittleBigPlanet, God of War series. I don't know enough about 360 or Wii exclusives to list them. Basically, I was just saying it's not like there's absolutely no reason to get one. Those are great games, which you can only get on console.

I don't think I've ever seen anybody saying stuff like that. Not once, not ever. The amount of times Halo and COD are brought up in these rather pathetic "console v PC" debates is pretty mind-boggling, and in my opinion just shows ignorance on the part of those who always mention COD and Halo as if they're the only console games ever made, and seemingly that the FPS genre is the only genre in existence. Broaden your horizons a little bit, people!
