Duke Nukem Movie...Something's Going On  "Hmmm?"

Well, fair enough Mr. D. You argue your case convincingly. I'm not a huge fan of the game series or anything, so I'd wager that you'd know better than I. The only one I owned was the original on PSone (I also have it on PS3 now). Running around in the mist trying to find your daughter. Resident Evil scared me - until I played Silent Hill.

The movie was a weird chopped down version of silent hill 1, with the main protagonist changed to be a woman instead of a man and the little girl was renamed from Cheryl to Sharon just because they sound similar and just because Sharon is a more common name than Cheryl...
The movie started as if it was going to be a great rendition of Silent Hill 1 with a few things removed and replaced but it quicky started borrowing a shitload of creatures from Silent Hill 2 and just randomly use them as killer monsters here and there.
40 minutes into the film, when the shit was obviously getting old, they went for a more sadistic and gory approach with the movie, getting the Pyramid Head to mutilate people and all that shit.
And if that shit wasn't stupid enough, they actually went to show that entire scene where they burn Cybil Bennett alive... That shit was sadistic and had nothing to do with how silent hill games are, not to mention that Cybil Bennett never gets burned alive in the games...
I am not against sadism in horror movies but Silent Hill is simply not about seeing people skinned alive or broken in half or burned alive.
Silent Hill games are about the fear that such shit COULD happen at all times but never does happen.
Not to mention that there's way too much talking in the movie while the games are especially cool for their lack of too much human interaction.
The lonely ambient of the games, was completely destroyed in the movie.

i couldn't imagine this would be good. it may have worked in some form 15 years ago, but not now, it's too far removed from the guys that "get" duke, for lack of a better word. i can't see how a studio or whatever would care enough to make a good duke movie. this would be like DOOM bad.

I actually liked the Doom movie. I only ever played the first few levels of doom 1 and 2, but before I saw the movie I acknowledged that it would have very little if anything to do with the game and enjoyed it for what it was, a Hollywood sci-fi action film.

If you want eye candy in a movie based on a game, then why not give this a go? (haven't seen it myself though yet) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0398913/

I actually watched that movie a long time ago and it was dissapointing, no nudity.

PG-13 movie for an M-rated game that was famous for its gore?

While I'm still of the opinion that Dolph Lundgren would be the perfekt Duke, that Sandman guy doesn't seem too bad.
A Duke Nukem movie could work, as long as they actually make it a violent old-school ACTION film. I think the major reason most game-to-movie adaptations have failed is because they 1) don't respect the source material and 2) don't respect the movies that influenced the games. I mean, they made Resident Evil an action-scifi-something instead of a zombie movie, Double Dragon an action-comedy instead of a martial arts action film etc. They should make it in the vein of 80's/90's action movies like I Come in Peace with Dolph Lundgren and Predator and the other classics.

I totally agree with this. I get so annoyed at video games that could have made good movies.

Max Payne. The game had a great story and great characters. If they followed the game's story and not even make a change, it would have been good start. But instead, they threw that all away and decided to waste the budget on CG hallucinations and cast Mark Walhberg who has never played the game. The only thing they got right was the scenery.

Resident Evil(s). The first was okay, but already strayed away from the game. Each additional sequel is basically Milla Jovovich in her own version of The Matrix, which was unfortunately slowly made it's way into the games. It seems like Milla plays the same character in most of her other movies too.

Super Mario Bros. Nuff said... If it was a cartoon or 3d animation, that would have been a good start.

Silent Hill. I agree mostly with what Mr.Deviance said earlier. The horror seemed realy tacked on and never really had a sense of atmosphere the games held.

Doom. A personal favorite game of mine. What is a Doom movie without Hell? That's like Max Payne without his sarcasm... oh wait. One thing of many that bothered me with this film was this it seemed like they only based it off of the most recent game (Doom 3) and almost completely ignore and forget about the original source.

A Duke Nukem movie at this point would be far too outdated I feel just like BFG9000 said. Duke was something of the 90's. And also given that Duke Forever tainted the franchise's reputation, it really wouldn't have a good audience to capture today other than all us Duke fans on this forum. For something like a Duke movie to work, it would have to be over the top and probably needs a really big budget too. It's hard to do a over the top action comedy movie with a low budget. Knowing Hollywood today, it would be PG-13 or less because R doesn't rake in the cash.

If Hollywood actually did make a Duke movie today, they would probably take a bunch of liberties with it too and make Duke probably fight aliens that look like Decepticons or vampires and werewolves to make it resemble whatever's popular today with teens. Anyone see the trailer for the Battleship movie? I don't remember seeing Transformers in the game.

Honestly I never envisioned a decent Duke movie coming to life ever. I rather hope it doesn't either cause it would probably suck and make Duke looks even worse.

All of the suckiness of Super Mario Bros. is made up for the fact that Toadstool is played by Mojo Nixon.

I would watch a Duke film if John st. John decided to get in shape *cough* *cough* take steroids *cough* *cough* to fill the role of Duke Nukem.

That would be undeniably bad-ass, as he kinda does have a slight Duke look to him, mixed with Kevin James

Yeah everything The Rock is in sucks. He was an awesome wrestler though. That feud between him and Stone Cold Steve Austin was nothing short of epic.

I thought that he was pretty kick ass in the Walking Tall remake, and he didn't do too bad in DooM considering he was just an actor. I haven't seen much of his other films, but I'd really like to see him in more adult films than "Badass Guy in Kids Movie Vin Diesel" bullshit.

The Rock and Sock Connection was one of the greatest Tag Teams ever.

I know you were talking about John St. John, but I nearly did a spit-take from laughter when I imagined Duke Nukem starring Kevin James. xD xD xD

"NOW YOU'RE DOOMED!"

That's the only line I remember from the Doom movie. Why do people have to say the title of the movie in the movie?

From what I can remember a lot of movies with a presence of a pro wrestler kinda ruined things for me. Of course many of these movies were considered bad anyways (IMHO). Some that immediatly come to mind are Blade 3 andUniversal Soldier the Return.

Not to go too far off topic, but I really hate it when the wrestler appearing "attempts" to do a finishing move even though it looks ridiculous.

If a studio did make a Duke film they probably would cast a wrestler since they want someone one whose probably on steroids.
Probably some "famous" one like Cena <shudders>. Then he would probably starting doing something called the Duke rap which will make our ears bleed. He'll probably also wear a giant spinner belt resembling his WWE belt but it would have a spinning Nuke symbol instead. Oh I could go on and on on how they would f it up, but I feel my head already starting to explode.

Another thing, if they did make a Duke movie, do you think that would run into problems with all the Ash (Bruce Campbell) quotes? I'm sure Bruce would surely try to fight them on it if they did.

When I was young the idea of a Duke Nukem movie was... awesome. Now I honestly hope it doesn't happen. There's unfortunately a very good chance they will screw up and make a horrible movie.

It would need a writer and director that treat the character and his world with respect and not as a big joke.

It needs to be a big, dare I say epic, action movie with the story/plot done in a [not too] serious way, but Duke's characteristic badassery and humor would bring the levity and fun (with a bit of cheese).

I hate to say it, but something like the usual Michael Bay film. Just keep the douchebaggery and immature sexual humor out.

You know, I actually agree with you quite a bit. And yes, I'm not really a fan of Michael Bay movies either, but that's probably a "good" direction for any attempt on a Duke film. But he would probably add a scene to 2 slimers humping.

I'd trust Matt Stone and Trey Parker with my life.

In other news, a wrestler in a movie isn't a bad idea... in fact.. it kinda inspired Duke Nukem.

For real?

No sunglasses and 'Duke' looks kinda confused. Underground or not, hehe, are you sure this isn't Guile in some new Street Fighter movie?

I feel the same way as Zor, when I was younger a Duke Movie would have been great, but since I have grown up seeing my favorite characters raped on the big screen, I'm less enthusiastic about the possibility. Especially seeing as how DNF itself had a bit of the Hollywood lameness to it at times. If the original creators can add some disrepect and cheesiness to a real awesome character then I shudder to think of Hollywood.

Too bad they said they would never make another movie with marionettes.
