The game's timeline is messed up. SPOILER!

Duke Nukem 3d was a game that came out on 1996.
Duke Nukem 3d's story was set in the near future, and more specifically in 2007,something that we get by the in-game calendar that we find in a room at Hollywood Holocaust.

In Duke Nukem Forever,we learn that its scenario is set 12 years after the events of DN3D,through a dialogue between Duke and Holsom twins.
Since the events of Duke Nukem 3d happened in 2007,the year that the events of DNF happen should be 2019. B)

But in DNF we get in the Duke Nukem Museum, where it is stated that the events of Duke Nukem 3d happened in 1996 instead of 2007.
And here we got the first WTF moment. :dukecry:

But if the events of DN3D happened in 1996,then the events of DNF happen in 2008. :D

It's messed up. :D

All i can say is the game was lead by a man who couldn't even spell his name right is some games, how do you expect him to get the dates for the game right?

Yeah, well... half of the original Duke Nukem happened in the future! Anyway, the dialog between Duke and the Holsom twins merely states that in Duke's universe, the game had been in progress for 12 years. It isn't stated anywhere that the game's production had started immediately after Duke last saved the world.

Furthermore, the calendar in Hollywood Holocaust also has more days than actually exist in any month. The contents of a 15 year old low res sprite do not constitute any kind of Duke universe canon. :dukecry:

Duke Nukem 1 actually took place in 1997, and Duke II in '98. So that means Duke3D is or should have taken place in the same year as Duke 2.

I played DN3D that much that I've memorized even its tiniest details before years!
I always had in mind that DN3D's events happen in 2007,and I waited for this year to come,to see if the real world in 2007 would have such tech and stuff happening on it as in DN3D!
And when I saw the script in the Duke Nukem Museum saying that these events happened in 1996 it felt very awkward to me! B)

I bet you also felt awkward about the picture in the museum with Duke saying to Proton he'll be done with him and still have time to watch Lenoman(instead of Oprah).

To make things more confusing, a secret message in Hotel Hell says "Duke was here 2017"

If you really want to make sense of the Duke Nukem Series continuity, watch the Evil Dead series.

No, really. Every movie contradicts the events in the previous series. I think with AOD Sam Raimi purposely contradicted the way things happened in the previous film. Thats how it is with the Duke Nukem series from Duke3D onward. Why do I say this?

Duke Nukem 1 : 1997
Duke Nukem 2 : 1998 (A year has passed in universe)
Duke Nukem 3D : "Sometime in the 21st Century"
All the games that came out like Manhattan Project and Zero Hour could take place any time in between.
Duke Nukem Forever doesn't even acknowledge those games, and resets the clock.

So don't worry about canon, or continuity. The Duke Universe is always changing the story around.

But, you see, Duke's world is similar to our world, but different. It's a topsy-turvy, upside-down, funhouse mirror reflection of our world...

Just noticed that in leaked documents the day all begins is April 1st Saturday. That's 2006 or 2017. Most likely the latter.

One part of the game refers to the 67th or 68th President, so that's got to be at least .. 92 years in the future, barring any huge strings of presidential mishaps.

So, year 2103-ish

Duke Nukem Forever used to have hovercars (2001 version), so I guess it was supposed to be in the future. It's pretty hilarious how messed up the timeline is now.

The duke nukem wikia says that the beginning of D3D took place right after the ending of DNII

It does. It also says on the back of the box, and in the instruction manual that it is "sometime in the 21st century."

So the timeline was in a state of flux with 3D onward.

Don't forget to look at the technology in Duke 3D; impenetrable forcefields, energy weapons which can shrink organic matter to one tenth of its original size... that's really futuristic stuff, and DNF is set even further in the future. Whenever the Duke games are set, it's got to be further forward than our present.
