360 Demo Leaked? Do not support piracy!

If they added something about "NO DEMO LEAK DISCUSSION or mentioning it or whispering about it or anything of the sort" in the forum rules that was AFTER they started handing out bans left, right and center. And typically when a new rule is added there's an announcement to prevent something like this from happening. Stop being an apologist idiot. The fact remains Gearbox handled this thing extremely poorly.

It does say "no leaked materials discussion" in the forum rules.

Then explain to me how we're supposed to know it's a ban-able offense? Mind reading? The "no leaked materials" thing was added after the fact. I've been keeping a close eye on the forum rules and how the moderators run the place for a long time. They need a whole new staff because the current one can't handle it. Treating the regular forumgoers as criminals isn't going to help sell copies of their game.

Any leak constitutes an illegal object or subject. I did sign up at Gearbox in fall, read and understood the conditions under which I was given privilege to post there and will comply with them. Ditto here.
Gearbox has this site for fans; not for hackers, thieves or pirates. The timing was right. You enforce guidelines when they get broken. There were no new rules added to the forums.

I also got a 5 point infraction that never expires. The only thing I did way saying 'something very precious has been stolen' in the demo thread. They're indeed acting like this leak never exists.

That's the whole point, the less people that know, the better.
In response to Mad Max, the rules haven't changed since May 4th, that was before the leak hit.

Regarding my Post locked by the Admin who thinks I am trolling. Seriously give me your email ill forward you the email from pc gamer.
If I was trolling.. seriously I wouldn't give a shit and post... but I am not a liar when it comes to developing video games or talking to people in the gaming industry.
Obviously the Mods and people on these forums are fucking jealous and that is fine.
#342 Posted 15 May 2011 - 01:37 PM
I cannot read them!
Guess the Real Trolls at Gearbox don't want me leaking anything to you or like the fact I am taking money away from them.
Concerning the new video posted up on the front of the page. I swear in the video it shows 2 dukes fighting an Assault Commander. Confirmation on Coop or Multiplayer Coop?

Also Muskydragon, you are aware that you just double posted, when you could have easily just edited the first one. No wonder the mods are coming down on you, especially since you seem to be complaining about them a lot here.

It never said you couldn't discuss it...just that you couldn't post stolen material. The two are completely different.
As quite possibly the biggest Gearbox apologist here, I can safely say that Adam and Chris can kiss my ass. They need to be replaced stat.
As a community manager, you are representing your company. You are in charge of the most intimate form of communication most fans will ever have. Do not fuck with your fans. Do not fuck with your clients. Do not fuck with the customer, ever.
That's one of the very few low level jobs where if you act like an asshole, everyone above takes the hit with you. It's like having an ambassador show up at the U.N. drunk off his ass.
I would terminate them immediately if I worked there. And I am a man who strongly believes in second chances.

What about the title? "Do not discuss piracy!" seems pretty comprehensive.
"Do not discuss piracy! Don’t talk about stealing. Don’t ask how to steal, or provide instructions on how to do so. The topic is strictly forbidden. Don't post stolen materials. This includes magazine scans and other copyrighted materials."
And it does directly say "The topic is strictly forbidden." I read that as pretty absolute... but I am late to the topic, so maybe this is out of context.
Just sayin...

My thoughts exactly. Although I'm going to get shot down about it anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Are you talking about a game clan or group or something? (just curious)
Personally, I read all rules on something as simple as a forum... it is only a few lines. 12 Rules is what I see... then some explanation of how they might be used and so on. Only slightly longer than 3D Realms rules for instance.
I can say this... if you know you can be banned from forums, not reading the rules and understanding them seems like a chance you take... and in doing so you surrender your right to be irritated with anyone other than yourself. I guess it falls under the personal responsibility concept in my mind.
Then I realize that my posts don't seem long to me... and are painfully long to others.
Maybe that is the problem... the types of people who don't read posts longer than say five sentences have never read the rules.
Never thought of that before... but still. Rules are rules. If I had a forum, I would have rules, but I would also leave it open to contextual interpretation... like judgement. Judgement circumvents technicalities that following rules can cause sometimes.
As to the bans, I can't comment directly as the posts are removed relative to this subject. Just looking at the rules themselves.

Under NONE of that does it dictate "leaked information." This includes screenshots and videos. This is part of DNF's subculture. It must be explicitly mentioned.
Normally, this would be a no brainer, but this is how we've gathered data for a decade and you can't just start banning and warning people left and right for something they have always done, especially when they sympathize with you.
This leak in particular ventures into a grey area because everything it contains has already been seen. Banning people for talking about footage/screens that were news back in September is pointless and counterproductive. On top of that, the leak is only functional on modded 360's, and the demo is a few weeks away at most.
Make a sticky, infraction, then ban. Pretty fucking simple.

Heehee, I still have those leaks. Don't get me started on how dumb id was for getting rid of Trent Reznor. Those alpha sound effects were fucking phenomenal.
I held off on the HL2 beta until after release to toy with it though. There was no way I was ruining my HL2 experience with a buggy shitty beta. Same goes for Duke.

@ the end of the day they didnt go about it right, ban who put that link up... not ppl who get sucked into commenting about it.
We did not discuss piracy, that to me entails giving links, stating how to do this or that'.. no. All we did was comment like we would in any other thread and they throw us the most ban points they can.. they dont care that probably means for some of us now that we wont be getting the demo? or am i wrong and we get it regardless?
Either way gbx wont say anything, there's suposedly a "surprise' soon but i cant imagine that being the demo FINALLY.
Hell some of us here can have a decent conversation, those of us like me im 29, around that age & up .But the 15yr olds here stickin up for gbx banning us need fukn help seriously. Ive already told myself that i wont be posting @ gbx fac anymore.. @ least here we can all be ourselfes and not fret over every word that we type here.
Mr.Deviance good to see you here checking this forum too mate

You know what happened to NintendoDS piracy when Nintendo used the strategy of denial of it's existence. It quickly widespread among it's userbase, expanding the overall problem. And those are $30+ games, here it's about a demo game that was not publicly released.
Either way, as much as I like the whole Duke hype, I'm not really into the whole crazyness involved with the FAC and the demo thing. I still love 3DR, GBX, Duke, and everyone involved in finally releasing the badass game soon!
