HRP 5 is released!  "Yeah, it's true..."

Ladies and gentlemen!

Today we "celebrate" the intended release of Duke Nukem Forever. What better date could we pick to give you the final version of Polymer HRP v5.0? ;) Yeah, none.
Head over to the HRP website and see what's there for you!

Some notes:
1) Right now, we only have a self-extracting archive. This is all I could get together in time for the intended May 6 release date. Parkar is pretty busy and preparing to depart for a long trip, so I will have to get you a proper installer some other way soon. If someone can help me with that, feel free to PM me since I have only little (= no) knowledge with such things.
2) Mirrors are welcome.
3) You MUST use the Polymer renderer, otherwise this won't work properly! If some of you can put together a release compatible to Polymost, go ahead and provide me with the file(s), we can then host them, too.
4) This release is identical to HRP SVN build #256.

Nightfright I've noticed there is some fake/unfinished list for DC and caribbean bellow regular HRP in the to do list in your signature, I wonder who put that there? Might try my hand at it or any other addon later on but now I'm working on DC ;) We'll see how long I will keep myself motivated.

Yeah well, that is stuff which is used in the addons while it's really part of duke3d.grp, but not used in the official episodes. empyrock put it there. However, adding that stuff is tertiary at best, so that's why it is at the end of the list. As far as I am concerned, it can stay there. ^^

I see. Then why not add the complete lists for all the addons there as well?

The pigcops are invisible ("2000_pigcop_d.png" missing in the svn).

^Must be a special mod. ;)

If the pigcop hasn't changed since I've updated, I could drop the file alone to be added manually to the zip.

Parkar just made an update to the SVN which seems to be incomplete. Can be fixed later. Stick to the build included with the public release, it definitely works (because I used the SVN build before that, #256). ;)

I was going to say...I just looked through the zip and the def files. There is no problem. I guess I should run the game to see though.

In addition to the HRP artists I'd like to thank Plagman for creating the Polymer renderer and allowing the HRP to come as far as it has.

Yeah. I used to think that Duke3D would die once DNF would be released, but I've changed my mind. With the people here I think it will live on. Anyway, I'm downloading the new HRP now, can't wait.

Perhaps somebody could make a trailer to raise awareness? If no one's doing so already that is.

Maybe the file is damaged. check the size of the original file with the file that you have, and try redownloading the file.

Bought Duke3D from GOG a few minutes ago through the link on Duke4.net and installed this pack.

Simply breathtaking work! Thanks to everyone who's been working hard on it. Looks amazing
at 1080p! ;)

A new video would be awesome indeed since the one we have in the "Media" section of the HRP site is really outdated now, especially with the many new screenshots I have posted above recently. ;)

I just skimmed through episodes 2 and 3 collecting footage of lighting which I like, and I'll try and make an "episode 2 and 3 HRP v5" trailer.

Edit: I've captured about 20GB of raw video data which I now have to import into iMovie, oh joy.

Second edit: can anyone recommend a nice epic grabbag to use as background music?

You could use the new Grabbag on the DNF website. It's more in keeping with the Duke3D Grabbag than a lot of the covers. There's also the one by CarboHydroM called Nuklear Duke which isn't bad. It's fairly old but I don't think it was really used for anything.

I tried it. It looks great. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to see much difference. I never really play user maps. Is there a stock map, like a map that shows all the new models, effects, and etcetera? If not, it's okay; I really don't play it that much anyway. Great work as always though.

Congratulations guys.

I'm a laptop man through and through and I don't have any computers in this house right now that run Polymer well enough to play properly, so I just stick with the polymost renderer. In fact, I'm still using the HRP from November 2005.

Maybe one day I'll be able to fully enjoy Polymer, some of the latest screenshots I've seen look absolutely amazing.

That's actually a neat idea. A map kind of like Zoo but which showcases all the sprites, textures, and enemies. It could be like a tour. The first area could be a street-like area, the next a space-like area with all the space textures, and so on and so forth with force field cages everywhere of the different enemies. That'd be pretty neat. And would make a great video too.

Yeah, we talked about that in the past; once I had collected a bunch of pictures of the major HRP contributors to put them in frames somewhere in this hypothetical "HRP showcase" map like the 3DR developer portraits in E1L8, but it never happened. I still have all these pictures somewhere, though they're probably pretty outdated.

Outdated, in what sense? Can those be updated? Posted Image

I was going to start recording when I remembered Fraps doesn't recognizes Eduke32. Anyone knows another recorder which recognizes Eduke32?.

Also, not a bug but, the color-tone of the troopers are different when they are dead, nothing important.

FRAPS doesn't work? I've never had trouble. Here's a video I made a while back with FRAPS

As for the color tone, it would make sense, a dead person would look pale in real life.
