nope, I'm a bit on the older side so I read Terry Brooks' Sword of Shannara series which predates the Sword of Truth series by a couple decades.

I liked the shannara books too, Brooks also did the knight of the word which I loved. No true Christian can love the lady as I do. I'm pagan hearted I guess.

A rock is not concious, when you remove or damage parts of the brain you can remove different parts of conciousness, conciousness comes from the brain, unless the universe is a massive brain or something similar (who knows) it is probably not concious.

Further more is it not arrogant to anthropomorphize the universe? That is probably how man created god in the first place, doing just that.

Inb4 you tell me that the universe is in us and not the other way around or that they are both the same thing both mirrored expressions of each other.

I love my family and my dog .... Love, completely free of lust. Lust = Pleasures of the flesh, you know this.

^^ I like the post Jimmy. From the micro to the macrocosm.

Yes I do know that. But we were discussing the lady, not your dog or family. Not even ladies, The Lady.

Lust, the integral part of the man/woman child bearing relationship. Without it the woman is more than likely to stray as it's a built in function of the body perhaps even of the soul aswell to some degree. It has been said that lust is the appetite of demons expressed through man.

My Jesus used to talk to me directly... then I lost Jesus. No, really I literally lost him. I guess when I was packing he ended up in an unmarked box or something. I always wanted my Own... Personal... Jesus... so I ordered him probably 20 years ago. A 30cm, talking Jesus action figure... very cool figure. Classic robe with realistic sandles, but did have plastic hair. I actually tried to find Jesus for a picture in this thread, but I could not. He didn't come with any cool accessories or anything, but I guess I could let him use some of Claude Speeds accessories. I will be happy when I again, find Jesus. ;)

I might check out the Sword of Truth series if I remember next time I'm down at the bookstore.

right now i've acquired a box of analog/amazing/asimov/astounding dating from '65 to '98 that i'm about halfway through with. It takes me near a week to read one and I still have about 75 left, so it might be awhile. The first several years went by pretty quick since the publications only came out four or five times annually, but once into the seventies they started hitting the newsstands monthly. The mid to late eighties starting seeing a July, a mid-July, a December, and a mid-December, so that pushed the number up to 14 books a year.

As a side note it's interesting to observe how science fiction had evolved through those four decades. Some people don't like to admit it, but you can see the shifts after things like the Star Trek tv series, the first Star Wars movie & Close Encounters, The Star Trek movies, etc. Even role playing games like Dungeons and dragons had some influence.

rofl'd at the slap fight picture.

So as I'm changing the rear axle seals in my explorer today, I couldn't stop saying .... RONAN THE ACCUSER!!!

Who says rabbitholes are bad? ... Alice seemed to have had quite a good/interesting time of things.
Rabbits are nice/soft creatures, herbivores and use them as a den, where's the bad here? hehe.

Fox: What say you to the existence of a "etheric" body?

Rocks? ... Rocks may have a memory ... everything is alive.

Go chew some shrooms and get back to me ;)

I have chewed plenty of shooms, great times were had by all involved. Would like to go again but probably shouldn't as I might not come back.

Rocks are very much dead, no matter what you saw while on shrooms. I saw a rainbow coloured worm crossing the road, that was cool.

I found it weird that that Ronan is that characters name as it's an old Irish name, sounds funny as a name for an alien, it means seal as in the animal.

@Jimmy those are some cool images, I saw them before, they do get you thinking that the universe could be a massive organism, concious who knows, I doubt in any way similar to us. The plant stuff was particularly awesome, never saw that before.

Be prepared to set aside a lot of reading time. That series of books are anywhere from 500-1000 pages long each, in paperback form. I've read through them all twice so far. I've always been an avid reader and have many shelves full of that genre of books. Thank goodness for 1/2 Price book stores. They have saved me a lot of money over the decades.

Hehe yeah I had a spree with them when I was younger, watched a streetlight fade from 1 vibrant colour to the next, was cool.
Everything shimmers with life or energy or can anyway, looking in the mirror on shrooms was kinda gross, look all grey and odd.
Had all kinds of fun adventures on them, lol. If you ever have a bad trip though, ugh.. stay in 1 spot and wait for it to be over, hehe.

Can drink beer like water on them, seems they trump other intoxicants.
I remember writing down the path of my life on the computer and thinking it was so profound and spot on, like it wasn't even coming from my own brain... I guess I forgot to hit save as it wasn't there in the morning. Had something to do with landscaping I think, so eff that anyway.
Got pulled over for running a red light on them once, that was interesting.

One time, myself and friends were down in a quarry at night, my one friend's grandfather owned the quarry so we were in the shop. APPARENTLY I kept sticking my head between the fridge and a large sink, when asked what I was doing I supposedly responded with "it feels good" .. I do not remember this.
We then went on a long walk, it was night and winter. 3 of the 5 of us laid on the side of a gravel pile and stared at another pile which I guess they could see the "face of the devil" in the pile. That's where myself and another diverged from their path, calling them idiots and carrying on, left them laying there. They laid there for hours and it was uber cold out.
No I'm not a "druggie" ... this was like 10 years ago.

The bug zapper went over my head for the moment, mosquitoes anger me lol.

good. I don't like having to go get a new book every week.

the shannara books are on the thick side as well. I was planning on re-reading them again after all these analogs are done, but I might start on this series instead.

I'd recommend the Sword of Truth series to you Forge, I'd say it may not be good for everyone though, the tv series looked lame I never seen it. I also read the Wheel of Time books which I'd say may be good for you too. Another dozen 1000 page books, good times, and a few more Fantasy novels while I'm at it. Anne McCaffery, the dragon riders books, and say Stephen Donaldson, order and chaos (5 book series I forget the names now) There that should keep the avg reader busy for a few months.

Yeah, Weis and Hickman, the Deathgate series. Another one of my all-time favorites. The Darksword Trilogy.

Stephen Donaldson, the Thomas Covenant Chronicles, 7 book series

Barbara Hambly, the Darwath Trilogy, The Silent Tower and The Silicon Mage

David Eddings, The Malloreon series

Thats just the tip of the iceberg. I have so many "favorites" its hard to choose.

They did some dragonlance series that's pretty good too.

they paint a good picture of what the world looks like, the characters have depth, and things don't usually end up all warm and fuzzy. If the 'good guys' win it's not some resounding victory, if they even live long enough to see things through to the end. (e.g. that goofy guy with the orange handkerchiefs in the Dark Sword books -Simkin?),(having to seal the gates and lock themselves inside the nexus in order to trap the serpents in the labyrinth in the Deathgate series)

i have a couple salvatore books, but i don't particularly care for them. the characters are pretty shallow and dry.

Driz'it fits that mold too, I'm not a huge fan of Sal either. Eddings is another one of my favorites also. Red gold, and eunuch snake men, one of a kind guys like belgarrath, I'd call Eddings the must read of all we've discussed.
