depends on how you use it.
nutting on a sink faucet in a public restroom is acceptable
nutting on the toilet tissue then rolling it back up on the tube is not

So, how long before the EU and Ukraine invade Russia? They have very little time to start. If they don't get going soon, they won't reach Moscow before the Russian Winter starts. Can't be making the classic mistake of European warfare.

No worries, looks like Russia is bringing the fight to the Ukraine.

the Crimean Peninsula belonged to Russia in the first place. their stupid mistake was not taking it back before they let the Ukraine cede from the soviet block.

Exactly. Russian banner above tanks on the ground in Ukraine. Mother Russia (maybe not Putin yet, but the ideals and the fight) is in Ukraine now and forever, CIA is Ukraine for a while too. Shit looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better. Those tanks, if I read correctly, were sent in by Ukraine but then "taken by/given to" men flying a Russian flags.

Can't the same be said of Donetsk?

i don't think so. a little research says that it was a British settlement and part of Ukraine before soviet takeover.
the crimean peninsula was part of Russia before the soviet takeover and basically annexed to the ukrainian "territory" of the USSR at a later date

but Donetsk was a big industrial and mining town for the soviet block, so naturally it's inhabitants have a strong russian tie

the Ukraine has been an on again off again territory of Russian (among other countries) for the last 300 years or so

prior to the Russian revolution(right after wwI) Donetsk belonged to the Ukraine territory, the crimean peninsula belonged to russia (won from napolean in the crimean war iirc)
after the soviets established their rule(post wwI) and started re-organizing their holdings, they shifted over the crimean peninsula to the ukrainian territory

there's likely some gaps i'm not covering. probably best if you look this stuff up and verify its accuracy

Donetsk and Odesa were given to Ukranian SSR by V.I. Lenin in 1919-1922.

Ukrainian SSR

That's a Hammer and Sickle if I've seen one. The lines where East meets West have always been shaded, and fought over.

my mistake. i thought donetsk was founded in the ukraine territory, had some kind of unrecognized self government that was disbanded after the russian revolution, then "given" to the ukraine.
i was under the impression it never was part of Russia proper like the crimean peninsula was.

learn something new every day

As an American watching American media, I just assume everything they say is false.

My understanding of the conflict in Ukraine is that the democratically elected and legitimate government of Ukraine was ousted because of a conflict with the EU. Putin supports the legitimate government and the US/EU bloc does not.

I am just more inclined to believe Putin than I am my own government. What does that mean?

well if donetsk truelly had some kind of independent government separate from the ukraine and russia (recognized or not - since it didn't seem to be a major dispute until after the soviets took over and "officially" gave it to the ukraine), then neither country can lay claim to it on the basis of it being a previously held territory. Since it appears that the predominant number of citizens are russian, and have been since at least around 1920 - and probably alot earlier than that, then russia has just as much right to claim it as theirs as anybody else.

Since donetsk was "given" to the ukraine by a defunct government, i guess it would be like if the confederate states of america had given florida to spain. after the civil war was over the restored united states would want florida back on the grounds that the confederate states didn't have the authority to give away territory that didn't "rightfully belong" to them. And the citizens of florida are U.S. not spanish. or some such point of view.

What, no Atari 400 or 800? Or a TI 99/4 ? Those were my computers back in the old days.

Atari 800
countless hours writing basic.

my friends and i were so stupid. we'd write little rpg text adventure games, but mess with the names of things. so instead of being struck with a sword wielded by an ogre, we put things like being struck by a flaming turd thrown by a giant dildo.

I remember how pissed off my friend was when I bought my Atari 800 system. He bought his about 3 months before I did and paid about 700 USD which was a serious amount of money back in the 80's. Then Target stores started blowing them out at 200. So me, one brother and my dad all picked up a system. Added bonus was my mom worked at Target and got us an extra 10 percent discount. I too did a lot of Basic programming on the Atari and TI comps. I recently blew the dust off the TI and to my suprise , programs stored on cassette tape still loaded up. I'm currently replaying the graphical versions of the first 2 Scott Adams adventure games.

Actually to this day, I don't even own an Atari computer. Don't know why really. Nothing against them. :)
