May have some better screenshots here of X-Files in HD. Needs translating though. Just a heads up. Looks like they redid the main title screen too. I thought they would have to upscale it because it was an effect shot. Thank god. It really needed to be redone.

I must have missed this before, doesn't sit right with me at the moment.
Even though the first seasons were "protected" for widescreen, they're cemented in TV history (and my memory) as a 4:3 show.

I'm looking forward to it. Personally some people don't like those black bars, but they didn't bother me. Wasn't big on the DVD mastering job they did of the early seasons though. Lots of color noise (flickering rainbows, very distracting), and artifacts. Later seasons looked very good.

The CGI effect shots aren't being touched (low resolution, needs upscaling). Some effects are CGI, but some (eg. oil well explosion in season 4, those worm things from season 1) are already on film. I'd say most of them are film though. Like the vampire green eyes from season 5. Not like Star Wars or ST: TNG with new effects. Which some would say the new effects don't look as good as the original ones. So the only thing I would think they are changing is the aspect ratio, which is what the way the show was intended to be seen (in widescreen, not full screen, like all this time).

I did some calculating a while back, and depending on each episode, there is roughly 3 minutes of video effect shots in each episode. Seeing as they redid the main title (going by those screenshots) and perhaps the end credits, you can knock that down to around 1 to 1 1/2 minutes of effect shots throughout each 45 minute episode. I think they mentioned that certain stock shots would also need to be upscaled. There was one episode from season 2 (Sleepless), which panned towards a building in the first 30 seconds of the episode was one of those stock shots.
