What did you use?

It took me less than a minute in Jasc Animation Shop 1 (MAY FRICKING 1998) to optimize and save a 433,600 byte version.

First, I recorded the footage using nullDC and Fraps.

Second, I extracted all frames to PNG using FFmpeg.

Third, I opened all the frames as layers into GIMP, and used the "Optimize (Difference)" function to essentially transparent-out regions that don't change frame-to-frame. Then I split the layers back into images using the GAP plugin.

Since points of the animation have multiple frames that don't change, I had to note down the ms delay values in GIMP's layers panel and use that to manually write a command line for ImageMagick:

Spoiler

Without the third step, the gif would have been 5.33 MB instead of 1.10 MB.

I'm pretty sure this is because ImageMagick is capable of making a so-called "Multiple-GIF" which is a neat hack to work around 256-color palette limitation. I hypothesize your software indexed my effectively true-color gif.

Of course it would have taken you less than a minute to open and re-save my already finished gif. Really?

Yeah, really. I've done that only to show there's room to improve on this bloat, not "hurr durr i took yer hard werk".

Since you seem to be most offended by the "optimized resaving" for no reason, I've just recorded and made a GIF of a Fraps capture and I got an even smaller filesize - 413,524 bytes. And my pipeline was just opening the AVI directly in Animation Shop 1. Nothing else. It already culls out the lack of differences and there's even still an excess amount of frames in my GIF yet it's still under that megabyte size.

It also took no more than a few minutes too.

I can confirm that my gif is true color while yours is limited to a 256-color palette, so the extra size is justified. Your gif uses 515 frames while mine uses only 386. Furthermore, you left additional blank white space while I looped the animation optimally.

Justified how? The low frequency visual noise no one is ever going to see in your gif? I bet that's where all the 400+ colors are going.

I can see why the U.S. is listed 7th. With the exception of the homo bashing by the Right, the other judging criteria have been getting dragged down by the Left. A simplistic view but fairly accurate in my mind.

The right are complicit in all of the fascist shit our country is going through.

Neither side gives a shit about the common man.

I'd like to add that lawyers and Boomers have turned us into a nation of pussies. Especially the Boomer "Liberals." Gotta love that flag football!

Being left wing used to mean fighting for workers rights and civil liberties. Under their morals it means bitching out their school's principal because their child's teacher played a video "they don't personally agree with."

Why plant a tree when you can be a consumerist shill and buy a foreign built Prius? Let's spend our day trash talking SUV owners and protesting nuclear power. Who needs logic when you have emotions?

People like Mark, or my father are in the minority. The Cold War and TV news wrecked that fucking generation. They really are a bunch of pussies scared of their own shadows.

The right wing is scared of countries that "drive" camels, and the left is scared of jungle gyms. News flash: We're fucked.

One of the great things about America is being able to do whatever the fuck you want as long as you don't negatively impact others. We don't need a culture of safety. Let's stop paying lip service to personal responsibility and fucking embrace it.

Well, I hear weed is now legal in some states also gay marriage, so maybe in the future thing may balance out (or maybe the powers that be are just throwing us crumbs from the table to make you think things are getting "better"). You are always going to have semi-autistic money grabbing reptiles who want everything they can get their greedy hands on in power, as the the kind of people who want power are these types exactly. Normal, good, honest people don't want power, this is the problem. Meanwhile the holier than thou liberals are too busy making a fuss over tiny things that won't don't really change anything, you can make it an offence for people to say things and act out things, but you can't stop them thinking and feeling these things.

As someone who is left wing, I can't wait for the "new left wing" of the 60's to become irrelevant. They could break a vase just looking at it.

Weed and gay marriage being legal are not the same thing as "freedom" but I suppose if people limit their definitions of things to such trivial and unimportant matters, whatever.
