I use VirtualDub for cutting and joining videos together. I'm sure there's more updated applications, but it seems to work for me. I use MeGUI for the final encode though. Not sure if MeGUI can cut videos into smaller sections. Haven't looked into it.

That's another thing I use. I managed to get rid of some of the rainbow noise in my old DVDs using a couple Avisynth filters.

I don't understand the "predictable" part. We get instant 'feedback' listening/seeing the results with, say Magix stuff. Where or how is AviSynth more predictable?

With a lot of movie editors, the editing information is presented in a GUI and saved into a binary blob. Depending on your editor, the GUI may be slow, laggy, and sometimes not do what you want, or there is no way to batch add data points. There is something about binary blobs that feels like a barrier to workability to a programmer.

For example, I did a project where I had to subtitle a video with huge amounts of copypasted text. AviSynth was a snap to paste it in, then do some copypasting to set a variable to increment a steady time to advance the lines.

I mean, I'm Christian and kind of anti-war, but, really, the quickest and dirtiest solution to the feud between Zionist Jews and Muslim fundamentalists is clearly to nuke Jerusalem. If there is nothing to fight over, they won't fight. Now, they will hate the person who nukes it, but they will stop killing each other, ideally.

In a perfect world, they could be brought to reason and reconciliation...but this isn't a perfect world and neither party is actually open to the IDEA of coexistence. Netanyahu talks about coexistence but what he really means is domination by Israel. He is no better than bin Laden or Ahmadinejad as far as intelligence and reason are concerned.
