My computer is finally fixed. I have a dual-boot XP and 7, though the XP side appears to be broken. That's ok, because 7 is awesome.

I can't wait for my new computer to get here (eBay listing) - I've pondered for years about buying an old Soviet computer ever since I was allowed to play with an old DVK-2 years ago... Unfortunately, I couldn't get one of those, so I settled for what you see there, the BYTE, a clone of the ZX Spectrum.

I don't like the ZX Spectrum very much, the one I have lives in the cupboard in it's box (it was given to me when someone was chucking it out) gathering dust, with this thing I might actuall begin to enjoy the Spectrum's library, maybe even find some software that takes advantage of the extra stuff in this clone as well (it has some of it''s own enhancements) though I'll have to make it a new PSU and spend a while with the multimeter to figure out how that casette port works. It'll be interesting to see just how compatible the machine is.

Despite my transition to 7 going smoothly, one problem remains:



I cannot compile EDuke32!

I've tried a bunch of things on advice from the IRC regulars. I ran Windows Update and got up-to-date (97 updates). I installed the Visual C++ Redistributable Packages 2005 SP1, 2008 SP1, and 2010 SP1. I've taken ownership of the repo and of the compiler. (I can compile other things just fine.) I completely disabled DEP. (The ol' Pentium 4 doesn't have hardware support for it anyway.) I am at a loss, and it makes me angry.

Upgraded my Galaxy Nexus to Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) last night, and this release of Android is frankly smooth as fuck. The phone is only about 9 months old, so it's not terribly outdated in terms of specs, but upgrading from 4.0.x to 4.1.x has seriously been a performance improvement here on par with outright getting a newer, higher spec phone. I'm very impressed by whatever it is exactly they did behind the scenes.

Seems the show 24 is HD ready. The entire series. It was mastered on D5 HD format. It's not film but rather HD video tape. Although it was shot on super 35mm film (4K+ resolution).

Many believed the reason why seasons 1-6 aren't in HD yet is because they weren't produced like that. It seems they were.

Although one of my older brothers had joined 3DR before I did (like 02, maybe) under the handle MrFilbble, he is not active at all (he did play DNF before I did, however). As far as I know, he is not a member of D4.net and has not even posted on 3DR since before DNF was released. I need to call him at some point since I haven't spoken to him in a while and I plan on visiting him in October.
