I'd rather learn japanese because it would be way better to experience many games and movies. I'm not an "otaku", but I do have enough japanese movies and videogames to warrant learning japanese above other languages.

So what's stopping you?

Laziness. And I don't really need that desperately. At least I know english good enough.

I meant that from all the languages japanese would be the most logical choice for me to learn. Or maybe french.

Most of my foreign language skills come from watching TV.

Krycek: Did you see what happened here?
Dmitri: Da.
Krycek: Too bad for you.

I learned English from the Internet and Sitcoms.

I took German classes in 7th and 8th grade. A lot of it has been lost from decades of little usage. Between what I remember and universal hand gestures I could get by for a while on a visit.

The only Spanish I know is from TV so I only know how to insult somebody. :)

I never learned English. They told me to watch a lot of TV. I tried that. After like two days ABC (Soaps/The Price is OK etc) I swtched the TV off, I still can't watch TV. Went to the movies instead, picked up some new friends and sort of oozed into this language.

One good thing about America, it's very easy to make friends.

@ Fox - and yes, Japanese is very difficult :) and their TV also sucks bad.

The Price is Right. Although, who knows, because of our economy, it might be "The Price is OK" now.

This was thirty five years ago. I remember you spin a huge wheel and act exited, then the show switched to 'real' tv commercials ... and I switched off. :)

From 24:

Hector: If he doesn't crack soon, use gasoline.
Spanish dude: Si petrol. (yes, gasoline)

Also, bueno is good. Like I said many months ago, I know a couple words from different languages, but not enough to string a sentence together.

X-Files:

Langly: More Huevos Rancheros!
Frohike: Maas Huevos Rancheros. (more)
Byers: Por Favor. (please)

I have a feeling that I need to sound more excited in my cover letters and emails to people I send my resume to. Maybe if I add more words like "excited" and "opportunity" I will get more bites.

Duke wouldn't feel shame, he'd say "now I see why you're angry all the time", maybe shoot him in the balls, then move on.

I'm at the tail end of my Microsoft Excel Advanced course. Been kind of putting this off for the last year, but decided to get it done. Should look nice on the resume.

Just have to do the hand-in assignments and I'm done. The previous 9 chapters were the learning material and the hand-in stuff will be the material which gets marked and graded. Then I have to write the exam.

I just finished reading Bart Ehrman's Did Jesus Exist? and I'm going to write up a review of it in the coming week (probably be posting it online next Thursday if I can get it done by then). But, I really enjoyed the book and although I have some disagreements with Erhman, I do think he does a good job of approaching the issue fairly historically and without bias. There are places where I think he is trying too hard to make Jesus not God (he is agnostic, he can't help it; on the flip side, I'm Catholic, I can't help making Jesus God) and I think he is guilty of some of the same flaws he accuses "mythicists" of (if I don't like it, it is not historical).

People should pick it up and read it.
