Within a week we can have a difference of 30°C. There have been a couple winters where we'd be comfortable in shorts on one day then a few days later it would be snowing and freezing. Yeah, but at that point it's already cold. You can adjust to it being colder if it's already cold, but I'm pretty sure last time it snowed here where I live, it was 70 degrees the day before. Temperature is relative.

having been subject to situations on several occasions where there's no "external" heating or cooling sources (i.e. no A/C, heater, fire, ice, bodies of water, electricity/appliances, etc.)
i prefer too cold over too hot. it's alot easier to find ways to stay warm than it is to try to cool off

plus when it's cold i don't mind if i have to move around or do anything. when it's too damn hot i don't want to lift a finger

the worst extremes i had to endure were -40F (-60F with wind chill) in Southern Idaho and +120F in death valley california (i would hazard to say that it was 0% humidity)
the worst one day shift i've experienced happened in manhattan, kansas. it was 65F one day and -20F the next
