According to this, Bioware is one of Canada's top 50 employers as of 2011. So all I need to do is move to Edmonton, and I'm set. It's only a 3 hour drive or 45 minute flight from Calgary.

So wait do we actually hold conversations in this thread or post random stuff? I think I'm on the wrong page here.

Sometimes it feels like there are different groups of us having 2 and on rare occasions 3 conversations at the same time, and we basically ignore the posts which aren't a part of our 'conversation'. But usually everyone posts about the same stuff and responds to the person above them.

It's only when some people are talking about something that I find completely boring like hard drives do I start talking about my own thing, but those people aren't done with their discussion so they're going on with it anyway.

Edit: Wow, Descent's post was at the end of the page, and when I clicked on this thread, I thought his was the last post, then it turns out there were actually 2 other posts after that on the next page...
And Jeff, if you move to Canada, you can start learning french :( Unless you're already living in Canada (I don't know where you live)

This post is simply to raise awareness of the thread I created in the modifications section regarding what mapping/modding abilities people have to get a grasp of how many active contributers there are in the DN3D modding scene in this post-DNF era. Take a look, and vote! (There's a 'nothing' option for you lazy sods :( ) http://forums.duke4....modding-talent/

Ahh crap... double post... the one time when the forum's safeguard against consecutive posting DOES come in useful and doesn't work!

I once had a family member's 500GB Seagate hard drive "crash". It turned out it was some stupid firmware bug that shut down the drive (making it disappear from POST and BIOS) because it had some error in SMART handling, so I had to buy a USB cable for an outdated Nokia cell phone online (for $0.01 :(), cut off the phone connection end, attach the wires to the jumper port of the hard drive, terminal into it, and clear the error, then update the firmware so it wouldn't happen again. I'm never buying a Seagate drive after that.

That's an awesome hack. I'm never buying a Seagate drive either, but for different reasons... they used to be very, very reliable drives, and then they bought Maxtor and cheapened up their entire product line to the point where now all they're known for is sporadic failure. WD for life!

I'm just curious, but why is it at work that you can't talk about outside work stuff? I understand personal stuff is a no no, but I was just saying goodbye to someone for a couple minutes because I wasn't going to see her until August because of my vacation. My supervisor starts freaking out. Still, I've seen her talk about non-work stuff, so what gives?

She wants to fuck your brains out and is jealous that you talked to another woman. I think that is pretty obvious...I mean, why else would a woman say something about a man talking to another woman?

The Post Thread is for random stuff that doesn't need it's own thread. Random questions or thoughts get dropped in here and sometimes a small discussion springs up. I think there may have been a flame war at some point in here too simply because at that time a religion/politics thread wasn't in existence and the topic came up.

I like to post random crap in order to vent.

I live in Calgary, which is the biggest city in the province of Alberta. Edmonton, which is where Bioware is based, is the capital of Alberta.

Good news everyone! After waiting a month, my storm force umbrella has arrived.

Got to test it out today on the way home because it was rainy and windy. This thing stood up to the test.

It's the period of time that we're in now, since DNF was released. It's different because before a lot of people on these forums were waiting for DNF, but now that it's out, they have different motivation for being here. It's kind of like the calendar measurement "A.D": from the time Jesus was born onwards.
I'm actually pretty happy that the Duke 3D modding thread has gone back to getting more activity than the DNF section.

They make storm proof umbrellas? I'd want one if it rained more often in Australia. Actually I reckon the average amount of rainfall in our country hasn't changed; it's a bit dryer over here these days, but in the east they're getting all sorts of floods now (they never used to), so it all balances out Posted Image

I just recently follow EDuke32 in earnest, to keep my promises here.

Me I'm not too happy. I'm still connected to Google with instant feeds. Even now, when the game is on pre-order for MAC, the adverts (four today alone) are extreme trollish proclaiming that fact. - But your post made me think about Jesus Christ. He too was killed and came back to life. Perhaps DNF is destined for the same fate. - I still want modding abilities for DNF, even if it costs the value of the game, the game just begs for TCs. - Should you ever be tempted by modern engines, when you get the hang of it, and join a group and talk/text to your mates on Scype every day, nothing compares, sorry. I want to have some sort of competition that the winner will receive a free code to play Minecraft.
Only problem is that I dont know what it could be.

No problem, give me the code and don't bother with a comp :(

Edit: How about the first person to release a large, TROR map? Or the best TROR map within the next 2-3 months?

I would rather it be something that everyone could enter, mapping is really only for a selected few. :(

What about some deathmatch in your Red Alert TC, and the person with the most kills gets the prize?

The server/client in eduke32 is still too shit for that and would not be fun for anyone.

Score... I replaced the 4 sub-200GB drives in my Linux box with that 2TB WD Caviar Black last night and it dropped my case temperature 4-5 degrees (C, of course). Now the box has 1x200GB, 1x250GB, 2x320GB, 1x1TB and 1x2TB drives. The drives I pulled were 1x180GB, 2x160GB and 1x120GB. I wonder what I should do with them now... I was thinking I could give the 160GB drives to my wife to use in her frankenstein machine (she just gets whatever old parts I have) and then I could take the 250GB laptop drive she has in there now and use it in the old laptop she uses sometimes.

Holy crap, that is a lot of data! What sort of stuff do you have stored up in there? I have something like a TB total of storage space (I can't be bothered to remember my drive sizes anymore).

Ah. Makes sense. If I kept the shows I recorded on my TV, I'd probably need more space. I just don't keep episodes long unless I really like them. I do keep around the Simpsons episodes I had recorded but that is because the Simpsons kick ass.

The following topics:
1) Elemental and environmental chemistry
2) Analytical techniques
3) Using and controlling reactions

I don't find it very hard, but it's testing 6 months of stuff and I feel there's going to be a question where I can't quite remember something critical, like how to draw the structure of some weird molecule.

So when someone says there are no current plans to release the X-Files series on Blu ray, does that mean not ever? Or maybe sometime in the future. Sorry for the silly question.

The problem with blu-ray is that it's dying out before it could properly take off (i.e completely replace DVDs). There are lots of people who don't have blu-ray players, and will probably never get one, myself included. Because the fact is any kind of physical medium of transferring information is eventually going to be replaced by "the cloud" where if you want something, you just download it onto your computer or TV. Given the cloud is an easy and fast way of getting what you want, when you want it, there's less reason for blu-ray to exist.

I think I'll be good with my DVD box-set of the entire series. After all, it would be a bit of a waste to be showing 1920x1080 pitch black pixels all the time. (I kid the X-Files, but they do suffer from lack of lighting on occasion.)

The obstacle to this coming true is bandwidth caps.

Where I work we spend a fair amount of time talking about non-work stuff. Beats bitching about how much work sucks. :(

Australia has always had bandwidth caps, and other countries like New Zealand . The difference is that our bandwidth cap has been going up and up while the prices remain the same. For example at my house, without changing plans and without paying extra money, our cap as gone from 20GB a month, to 100GB a month over the past few years.
