So..if we are uncomfortable buying it, we should buy other stuff with it? Hmm..what about just not buying it? Usually isn't that the motto? If you have to think twice about it, you probably shouldn't do it..that said...no, nevermind.

I'll probably go serious clothes shopping around Christmas since that is when I'll have money to spend on clothes. I'm always on the look out for new pants since my size is near impossible to find (32*34 in jeans and apparently 34*34 in slacks). America is just a bunch of fat asses. There is also the fact that I am making one of those life transitions that requires a change in wardrobe. I went to a private high school with a strict dress code (well, it wasn't that strict) so I wore khakis and polos all the time but then in college there was no dress code so I wore jeans all the time...now I need more diversity and probably should wear khakis/slacks more.

You should try wearing black.

I do have black jeans. I like them but haven't worn them in a while because they are in the bottom of the pile. I look decent in black suits but I prefer my navy suit. I don't think I look that good in black. However, the few black t-shirts I have are pretty nice on me.

Anyway, tomorrow is day of Dell deployment...I am not sure how they think this will take more than a day. 25 computers between 4-5 people? Come one...I can deploy 5 in a day (I assume).

What's deployment consist of? Just hooking up or what?

Data migration and setting up the computer. I may have to install some apps too...the slowest part is waiting for the computer to do stuff.

Can't you hook up all those PCs and open the same amount of remote desktops and install whatever you like without the need to wait. Or make deployment automatic or whatever... Are those Windows-based PCs? With Active Directory you can deploy lots of stuff automatically.

Technical mumbo jumbo...

This is a government building...it runs like a broken clock. It is also Dell we are talking about here...which also runs kind of like a broken clock.

Actually, it turns out that there are almost 50 laptops and 50 monitors and 50 fancy monitor stands (yes, that is stupid). Of course, today the kits for data migration did not show up to the site so I get half a day today and a full day tomorrow and Thursday.

I also decided that driving downtown was a stupid idea...I'm taking the metro next time.

Driving? Meh... I'm not planning to have a car like ever. Too much hassle for a home sitting couch monkey.

I like my pedo-van.*

I also need it to move all my crap half way across the country in a few weeks (and when I moved in May)

*Note: There is no airbrush on my van...I just felt like being funny with this edit.

Well, the van is useful when you're moving. And it would be good to have around, but I still can't see me having one.

Oh, it gets terrible gas mileage...I mean, terrible...10mp/g in the city and barely over 15 on the highway. I spend $75 to fill it up and that gets me just under 400 miles on the highway.
However, I am not sure if I will ever be able to drive anything smaller than this thing. I drive it like a sports car, what would I do if I ever owned a sports car? I am afraid to find out...

I am probably going to get rid of it after I move though. I can't afford to own it and I won't need it where I am moving since Washington DC has a great public transportation system and I am looking at places walking distance from a station (and my school has a station).

You should have put the words "Free Candy" on the side of you van, would have made it look more like a real pedo-van. :)

I hate to double post but this thread is slower than...well, you don't need the mental picture :)

I deployed a third of the machines (14/44)..and there were 5 of us. Yeah, the Dell guy was impressed.

I would also like to add some political comments that shall lead to discussion:
I have found that the government (US mostly but I'm sure others are the same) is only good at 2 things:
1. Spending money
2. Being there between 9AM and 5PM.

I swear, by 5:01, the place was basically empty.

Reading the synopsis in IMDB, I'm not sure I'd see it. Sounds almost predictable in a way. Without even knowing any characters, the antagonist

That's also how I work. :) Why work if you don't have time to live? Or... Why live if you only work, eat and sleep?

Anyway.... I've bought a new PC. Woohooo! The last upgrade was in 2005.

Yeah. There is a Dell Team Lead there who I think works directly for Dell. Everyone else there pretty much was local guys looking for money. He was a pretty cool guy, actually.

What did you get for a new PC? How much? I last made a full upgrade in '07 but I've since had hardware failures that required me to upgrade partially. New mobo/processor and new video card (and power supply) over the last year or so just because those parts failed on my purchase in '07.

AM3/DDR3 mobo with integrated videocard
Athlon X2
4Gb DDR3
1TB HDD
Win7 Pro
DVD-RW
Case

Around 600-700 bucks. Kind of not cheap. Ironicaly, Win7 was the most expensive "part". Either way, with AM3 and DDR3 I think I have a fairly future proof PC in case I want to upgrade some parts.

Unfortunately one memory module was broken. So I replaced it.

Not bad actually. Of course, you didn't pick up a video card so that saved you in price. I assume you aren't going to be playing many games then.

I need to get more RAM. I have a DDR3 capable mobo (4 DDR2 and 2 DDR3 slots for dual channel but I can only use one or the other) so I may eventually pick up some 2 gig sticks at DDR3 or something. Right now I have 3GB DDR2 and that works but I know eventually I will need more and I have 64bit so I can.

Not right away. Plus I wanted to play some old stuff first. Dreamfall for example.

Also, I would need new power supply unit if I'm going to buy video card. I have now 350W since I've replaced this noisy default case's psu to my old one.

Still, I game on consoles. So, I don't think I'm going to be gaming a lot on PC. Probably wouldn't even buy a video. But the potential is there if I would ever want to have a monster.

I found out that my PSU isn't powerful enough for me to hook up another hard drive...maybe I should try again and see if it was just a bad connector...I'm bored as hell right now so I think that is what I will do.

EDIT: It was a rail problem. Dual rails and last time I guess I hooked it up to a rail that was already loaded

I'm consolidating comments so I don't flood other threads with oporix.

Quote

Alan - It is time for professors and ignorant people to LIVE in this century and NOT the 1st. Religions or the Bible, are FULL of hate, bigotry and even condone killing. Take slavery for example, if the professor would have said: "yes to slavery" as he said yes to some old teachings such as homosexuality? None of you would have commented in hid favor? Right? But most of you and the professor HATE homosexuals. It got to stop. They are here, and will be for ever. Any intelligent person knows that. He is talking nonsense "sex outside marriage is wrong" lol... it might be wrong for him, so DO NOT DO IT. but if I want to have sex, and not marry... it is my business. Get It? So? Next time keep your idiotic remarks and your personal opinion for yourself, and DO NOT poison young people's mind.

My response:

Quote

Thad - Hey, Alan, thanks for the comment but a few things:
1. Cool down before you type a barely coherent comment that lacks basic grammatical fluency. It makes you look like an idiot and makes it very hard for anyone to take you seriously. This is not YouTube or 4chan.
2. You should take your own advice: "Next time keep your idiotic remarks and your personal opinion for yourself, and DO NOT poison young people's mind." Your entire comment lacked any evidence or support for your opinions. It was just a string of hateful things about people. This is not a place for hate speech.
3. There are sections of various religious organizations' scriptures that can be interpreted as hateful. However, there is a difference between what the texts say and how people act according to them. Jihadists do not understand the Qur'an in the same way as the majority of Muslim believers. I did not quote Leviticus 18 but I don't have space in this comment to explain the text in its linguistic complexity.

Yay! Religion topic!

About Leviticus. Why don't christians follow it? I know that Jesus in the New Testament said something about change that he brings with himself or whatever. But really, why Leviticus become irrelevant in its rules? And more importantly, who decided it? Church or there is something written in New Testament about that? Looks too convenient just to dish those rules out.

They were cultural rules more than religious rules. The laws about food were in a way thrown out by a quote from Jesus in the gospels about what makes you unclean is not what goes into the body but what comes out of the body. There was also a movement in the first century where the Gentile converts and the Jewish converts were disagreeing over which laws from the Jewish codes needed to be followed. Circumcision and eating habits were more or less agreed upon as not necessary anymore. This disagreement can be found in Paul's letters but I can't remember which one. Maybe Galatians. There is an argument for it I think in Romans. (I don't feel like finding citations right now, I just woke up)

My (and other before me) research in this topic showed me that a large part of the laws in Leviticus, especially the sexual laws, had to do with procreation and the next generation. There was a grave concern with the next generation and purity of blood line. The stuff about homosexual acts is because such an act does not produce children...ergo, using Leviticus to argue against homosexual acts is kind of weak. Even I'll admit that.

What do you mean by "agreed"? Who decided that? God?

Personally, I think that religion is fine if the church doesn't try to govern. At least it won't be trying to invade my personal beliefs(or lack of them) or make state laws. Church shouldn't be even remotely allied with government.

I find it amusing that US president must be christian or hell breaks lose. I wonder if this will be even more of a challenge than voting for black or woman president.

Either way, it is sad that religion is still playing that big of a part in many non-personal things.
