Pretty certain that some of the stuff that goes on here these days might be classed as bullying...

There is an actual asshole squad here.

I really don't get the appeal of that one. Duke Nukum's low range grid box movement was horrible after playing Keen right before it. A new game in 2013 with the same limitations I hated then has me uninterested. Also that's some eye raping CGA hud graphics right there... not something I would want to look at for hours in 1991 or 2013.

Plus, outright obviously mimicking an Apogee game that is still sold is kicking the hornet's nest..... even though Duke Nukum has similarities with Captain Comic

Only if you assume that sociopathy is a behavior which people are born with.

The facts certainly lean that way.

Absolutely not. I could go on and talk about social factors, but there are some more solid examples. I.e. if a child is hit on the head constantly, the frontal lobe is damaged and literally destroys his ability to have empathy for others or self-control.

A little mixed bag if you ask me - the shooting and exploding stuff looks like it could be fun ;), but the movement seems clunky, just as in Duke 1. Some of the graphics are really plain and some a lot better (the latter screenshots for example) and some are plain ugly (status bar).

I'd still give it a spin though.

The revenant picture is lovely - the double barrels just tacked on the single shotgun and the revenant's rough sprite :D - must be the picture taken of the poseable model without any cleanup

Eye surgery went well. Relatively painless. Aside from a little poking and such, which I couldn't hardly feel.

Sad to see this forum going down the drain like this.

It's not just the childish behaviour of some of the regulars on the last few pages either; more serious is the constant and spreading anti-semitism infesting this board, which in my view is in no way defensible with the excuse of edgy internet cool.
It would be nice if the moderating staff could find a way to put a stop to this in a sensible way, because I don't want to think I've mistakenly wandered into Stormfront every time I open a thread here.

I don't think basing (part of) one's world view on "Der Ewige Jude" is the way to go.

This forum was much worse back when Blackharted and Culture Shock had to do something stupid in every thread.

going down the drain?

it's been like this for quite some time

antisemitism is just the latest in a long line of "targets" that range from ethnicity, religion, country of origin & sexual orientation to political and personal preferences (like being a tea party supporter, furry, or a pedo)

there's no escaping conflict when the community consists of individuals with different points of view and those that like to exploit sensitive subjects for entertainment

Blackharted was easily ignored and I don't remember CultureShock saying anything not concerning games.

And back then saying "fuck off George Broussard" got me into some trouble*. Right now I can say "Randy Jewford fucked Duke Nukem" and it won't be noticed.

* - although, because some didn't understand I was paraphrasing GB himself.

But will it be solved by a more strict moderation?

i wouldn't call it a double standard, but .....
one can go on a rant about greedy jews, "stupid" political/religious beliefs, furries are fags, etc.
but if someone starts spouting ant-homosexual jargon, anti-black racist comments or what is "deemed" sensitive and inappropriate, they pretty much get shut down and ostracized by the community

we're depending on the judgement call of the mods. if things are to be "fixed" the forum members need to start using the "report" button under everyone's posts and help the mods police the hate orientated ideology

Any moderation is better than no moderation. Some places, the moderators don't even enforce rules. Admins are indifferent. Somewhere in between is probably the best.

This other place I go to has a 10 point limit before someone gets permabanned. Certain infractions are worth almost 10 points (spamming, threatening to harm, posting explicit images). So you could have one big infraction get you booted. Or several little ones. I think though, if you've been a good boy it gets reset after a while back to 0. So if you swear a lot in your posts (each word is 1 point) then you could be booted quickly.

Place is usually quite nice. It sort of goes by that "treat others as you want to be treated". So if you're nice to everyone, then nothing bad happens, and everything is cool.

I think people are just joking around, I do sometimes swear too much I guess, but I find swearing a very effective way to add a bit of emotion to a typed sentence.

Moderators? MODERATORS!? HAHAHAHAH

A post I made in a thread was spliced out and put into a new one titled "The Supreme Topic of Retardation". My titled was changed to "$10.13/dozen", and at one point it was "Lostpenis Bicycleaccident".

These are our moderators. I'm not even offended. I think it's awesome and hilarious. You guys should too and just lighten up.

most of it does start out as harmless humor, but sometimes it gets run into the ground when it's repeated over and over.
where is the line drawn? the first post? the seventh post? Can we even draw a line that meets everyone's standards without turning into a bunch of p.c. whiners where absolutely nothing is tolerated?

A joke too far (or too often repeated) is an insult. There is a fine line and I'm not sure anyone here has quite crossed it (at least in this thread). Certainly tread the line.

Different people, different ideas of what is "funny"

Personally, I don't think making "jew" jokes is funny. I don't like Zionism and I don't think Israel is a victim of anything, but I am not about to make Dark Ages ethnic slurs.

As someone that spends less time here now, I find the forum often comes off as hostile when I visit. Jokes and a dark sense of humor are fine, I'm that way inclined myself. Heck, in the old days when there were a million gay jokes going around about us all being gay for one another it was funny, but these days if what people are saying about one another being retarded, autistic or whatever else is done jokingly, their jokes are very poorly executed.

In short, from the outside, this community doesn't look as good as it did, it's starting to feel less like Duke4.net and more like Sonic Retro and 4Chan over here, both of which I outright refuse to navigate my browser to.

I don't care about the jokes or politics because that's not what I'm here for -- I can just ignore them. But what I am worried about is the slowed rate of new project releases, announcements and other EDuke32/Mapster32 related editing and project discussion.

This place is pretty calm. Some places I've been to are absolute cesspits.

You say something someone doesn't like or doesn't agree with and there would be about 5 people gang up on you for "having a different opinion". I don't find that here. Perhaps I'm just not visiting the right places. I mostly stick to TPT though. I don't even read all the replies though. Maybe I skip over the odd stuff.

I know. Someone trying to produce something to homage a game that never existed got a homophobic slur and someone trying to help by explaining the options available got labeled as an autistic. What has this forum come to?

I was about to jump ship over the antisemitic remarks that seem popular around here because I don't want to be associated with a forum fostering little internet rednecks finding a funny in stereotypes.

The difference is that Stormweenies take it seriously. If you take me, Viper, or Cody seriously, you'd have to be pretty thick.

I was kidding. Austists are noted to be obsessive about subjects that interest them. I've never seen you make a mistake when it comes to video game stuff. You always know your shit. It was like the opposite of an underhanded compliment. An overhanded insult?

That some of the mass shooters are not "worthless sociopathic scumbags who would have found any reason to do it" as you said.

You honestly think there is ever a forgivable reason to murder people at random? Anyone who does some sick shit like that would have found any reason to do it. Degenerates don't need a reason. A "normal" person pushed to the edge doesn't take out random people, they take out whoever was ruining their life and then probably themselves.

Are we talking about the blame of mass shooter with brain damage, or if there are real consequences of bullying?

There are consequences of bullying, but mass murder is not one of them. Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold were fairly popular in their school. And people have said Eric was a bit of a bully. (A lot of people theorize that Dylan would have never done the massacre by himself, or even thought of it.)

I have Aspergers, and I'm pretty cool. I obsess about stuff (games, planes, etc. Interests have changed over the years), but to a regular person they can see me as some kind of "broken record", but that's because they don't understand the condition that well.
