I shouldn't have to do that to play a game. I'd go so far as to say that Steam is the reason why people are playing consoles more than PCs but that isn't true. Seriously though, shit like this shouldn't happen. All this crap about needing to be online to play anything should go. It honestly is a reason to pirate something instead of buying it...

I refuse to change Steam to offline mode on principle. Besides, if I'm online and I can see what my friends are doing, I should be able to play a game.

I like the software delivery part of it...it is convenient in so much as all the updates that Valve pumps out it would be a huge pain to keep things updated myself. However, I'm not a fan of not having a disc especially since my internet access isn't always that fast. Installing off of a DVD is faster than downloading and then installing on my internet connection and that is not that irregular in the US where internet speeds are slow(er) unless you are on a corporate line or fiber (which isn't available where I am).

If everyone had (free) high speed internet connections (I'm talking fiberwire) then I can see the benefits of no discs...but since that won't happen for a while if ever, I want my physical copy!
I have heard that Google wants to build a fiberwire network of super fast network connections in a city of their choosing...I haven't heard if they have chosen the city yet.
