Meltdown music with EDUKE32 and DukePlus

#1

Hi,

I'm a big fan of the music in Duke Nukem 3D: Total Meltdown and with the HRP's music pack, I noticed that there's a few tracks (bar music, level complete, grabbag on the title screen) from that soundtrack used.

What I would like to do is import the entire Meltdown soundtrack for use with EDuke and Dukeplus. It's readily available online here but I am unsure on exactly how I'd go about doing it. I'm also looking to use the Plug and Pray episode tracks for The Birth, too.

Any ideas guys?

Or not.

Having just downloaded, opened and played all the tracks in the PSX pack, I see no difference in the regular HRP music.

It's lacking pretty much every Mark Knight track composed for Duke Nukem "Total Meldown" minus the ones I already mentioned.

What gives?

THIS is what I expected to hear: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=_daEvYtceR0

You're right, sorry. That pack should be named "Mark McWane Pack". I'm going to make a new PSX music pack anyway, sourced from the actual game files rather than Mark's MP3s. The files are done, I just need to work up the motivation to link them to the game. Do you have any suggestions about linking the new PSX tracks to the levels?

First you need to convert the Meltdown soundtrack files to OGG.
Copy the downloaded PSX pack to a new zip.
Then rename the new OGG tracks accordingly (if neccessary) and overwrite the existing ones in the zip or patch the music.def file.

Believe me, I know how to do it. I have put together music packs for the N64 and Saturn ports. I just want some input on song <--> level choices.

Also, I will be making normal/aggressive options like I have for the Saturn pack. Normal mode will only replace songs with their PSX counterparts if they exist, leaving new PSX songs unused and levels without PSX songs untouched. Aggressive mode will replicate the song selection of the PSX game.

Does anyone have a listing of what songs play during what levels in the PSX game?

That was meant as a proposal to the OP. I can't write three English lines in two minutes only :P

I played so much Total Meltdown as a kid, I could easily make you a list of all the correct songs and levels. Gimme about a day, I'll post it up in here. :P

Awesome, thanks! I have the files from the PSX version converted and tagged with their titles, so it will be easy to use.

Last time I was on Mark's site and I downloaded all the Duke songs, he didn't have Dubspace and Mysteronius up there, so thanks for pointing Mysteronius out.

Also, Gabbag is for the credits thing at the end of Episode 4.

Duke Nukem PSX Music Pack beta 1 is out! dnpsx_music_pack.7z (196 MB)

You probably want to use aggressive mode since only 5 or 6 songs are shared between the PC and PSX versions.

This is an OGG version. I have a FLAC version ready to go too, but it's ~850MB (my disk quota is 1.0GB and I'm using half of that) and EDuke32 doesn't even support FLAC.

Oh hell yes.

I really appreciate you doing this. Thanks!

EDIT:

I installed the pack into the "autoload/highres/" directory, along with the files in the aggressive pack. However, I'm having issues getting the aggressive pack to work and I'm unable to get any of it to work at all with DukePlus.

Clearly I'm doing something wrong. Also, in the readme (which I read ;P), it says to delete any loose copies 'duke3d.def'. For some reason, I have like 3 in my Duke32 folders. Am I to delete all but the one that came with the music pack?

I'm sure it's something stupid I've overlooked. What with all the different things that comes with Duke HRP, my folders are a mess!

Simply move both zip files into autoload/duke3d.grp/. Do not unpack them.

Don't delete the other duke3d.def files, just move them to an out-of-the-way directory.

That's cos those two weren't used in the game 0 they didn't really fit.
