One example would be the ability to come down of the first building by actually going through the stairs and exiting it like a normal human, if you are bored of blowing up that blasted fan and jump down.
We are also adding some extra details to it.
The skybox seen is obviously the one from the HRP project and at the moment it's a place holder but if we decide to keep it in, credits will be given out for what's HRP or not.
In the end we believe in having fun without taking credit for our work or something.
You can think of it like a random project started out of boredom from me and my mate's part and not some pro work that is aimed to rival other projects.
To put it the best way, you can consider it fan art!
At the moment we are experimenting with some lighting for the rooftop area.
1.
2.
3.
If anybody is interested tell me what lighting do you like the most for the rooftops.
As we progress, I will post further screens and at one point a video too.
Also if this is not the right section to post this, feel free to move it to the appropriate one.
Also here's another wip screen for your curiosity.

As far as I'm concerned, you're working on fan art that is an ode to the first level of Duke3D. It doesn't use assets from the original game and it has your own creative twists on it. As long as you title it right and give it enough distinctions, it's just another custom map that no one but yourself will have rights to.

There are a horde of real so real real so sick maps in the vault. They are far more interesting and have no link to 3D Realms; actually, it's written in the first sentence in the map template. DukePlus has a shitload of new art. And call the hero Mr. Deviluvs or whatever, and if it is Unity, I even can do some coding in fall, when you and your friend(s) should have some descent maps ready and some models to be killed.
Just a thought.
p.s. My last post. I'm now under cover, time to keep my promises, so PM, if/when your ready.

This map is what I call an excellent remake of E1L1 without being a direct rip of it.

I know that map and it's much too different from Duke3D's map.
What we are going for is not a complete redesign but for something in between.
That map doesn't retain the classic feeling at all, which is why we are going for a more classic feeling than he was.
Also, it should be known that who ever made that map, had insane mapping skills and time on his hands.
That is probably one of the most interactive and well done maps out all the Hl2 maps that I've played until now, so trying to compete with that wold mean that I have to be insane.
Also, I am glad that some of you seem to find it interesting, just don't think about it too much.
We don't really intend to wet anybody's appetite or create false hope.
What you see in those pics is literally everything we have done up to this point.
If we move past this point I will further post media when things start to look decent.
As an update, we've already increased the rooftop size, to better match the classic one as this one was too small.

I don't see how we could but if they did try to I (the mapper, my friend Mr.Deviance is the one giving tips, ideas, and help with level design elements) would fight to keep this "art" alive.

Thanks I'll keep that in mind (I sent you a PM btw).

I don't understand what you mean dude, if it's some form of service you're hoping to offer then please PM me or Mr.Deviance.

That map is decent but it's far overworked, and isn't recognisable in screenshots. And it's way of keeping the player out of areas they shouldn't enter is to just simply kill them. I'm aiming for a more friendly, and atmospherical approach where the sky is the limit. I'm also going to be offering it to scale, rather than as a huge map with too much wasted space.

Don't try to stick TOO closely to the original levels. By that, I mean you can use some 'real' buildings on the rooftop, rather than use the cheesy skybox that comes with Duke.

Unfortunately, it doesn't just work like that; you can't use anything from the HRP as is, period.

Ok, then we definitely won't keep it in...
We decided against keeping it in anyway, as it's too low res in comparison to the source textures.
At the moment it's just a placeholder until we make our own 2d or 3d skybox.
Nothing will get released with hrp content in it don't worry.
That skybox is the only thing we threw together fast to not be horrified at the ugly default skyboxes that come with source, while we tweak various areas of this map.

In the 3 screenshots that square thing under the light doesn't fit it.
I really liked the 4th screenshots. However there is something weird with the fences. I would like the fences over the ventilation square like the original, instead of an octogonal thing. And aren't the fances a too tall?
And I think you should make the top of the fances like this (as the original sprites implies to have):
You can't have this kind of inclination in the HRP because the side varies depending of the maps. However you can do it there

Judging by your post I guess you didn't bother to read my first post...
If you would, then you would know I already wrote this.
"One example would be the ability to come down of the first building by actually going through the stairs and exiting it like a normal human, if you are bored of blowing up that blasted fan and jump down."
Also, thanks to everybody that gave out critics and suggestions! While we aim to keep it as close to our vision as possible, I don't see why constrictive criticism couldn't help us improve a few details here and there.
Also, considering that we've started this from pure boredom, it's also an interesting idea to see where we actually want to go with this map because frankly, we don't either
We're making up our mind as we're making it, which is why I initially wrote that this should be considered fan art at this point.
I hope that we can show a few more screens as soon as we get done the new part of the map at which we've been working yesterday.
Just don't hold your breath for this, as we're not working at nonstop.
