Unfortunately "badly" is a huge understatement here; Galactus was played by... a cloud:

No thousands of people who know what makes a GOOD movie. Like Rodger Ebert.

I assume Galactus was within the cloud. It'd have been worse if they had actually shown him, considering that the plot didn't really involve him, only the threat he posed.

No it would not have been wrose if they'd have shown him, it would have been better.

Actually, Mikko is right. That is the reason they didn't show him. Galactus' appearance is actually very comical, and would turn a lot of people off.

My thought was that the whole cloud was the creature. It is a movie after all.

Although Galactus is usually represented in humanoid form, each sentient being perceives him having a form resembling his own. Hence, humanoids see Galactus in humanoid form, while a Skrull, for example, would perceive Galactus as resembling a Skrull. Although as Galan, Galactus was indeed a humanoid; his true current form is unknown. It is unclear why beings from different sentient races perceive him differently.

They wouldn't have shown him looking exactly like the comics, if they'd shown him. They'd of made him look similar but different enough so he didn't look silly. Anyone with a brain would've done that.

You could shoot him in a way that made him look good, but it would have to be in pretty much silhouette. I could imagine him reaching out, with 'God Rays' streaming out in front of him from the sun against a black background. His eyes would be glowing in the blackness of his helmet. His hand reaches towards the camera - which pulls back until we see that he is about to grasp a planet. That would hammer home the size and the threat and not have him look completely goofy.

I can't imagine any of the FF production team doing that though. Seeing how they did the main costumes, I think they did the right thing with using a cloud!

Your idea is good, but what was wrong with the main costumes? I thought they were pretty good. Very close to the comics. If memory serves me I think Dr. Doom was closer to the comics in the second film than the first. I'm sure his costume was acually a metal suit instead of metal skin.

I hope Thor is a good movie. I'm sure it will be, but the trailer sucks http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/sad.gif

There was nothing really wrong with them, you could just tell that the whole production, from script through to execution, was just a little bit below par. Again, it wasn't bad, it just wasn't up to the standard of other Hollywood outings.

Thor looks interesting. I too was kind of very 'ehhhh' on Thor from the comics. He was never my fave. The trailer makes it look interesting though.

The trailer makes me worried about the film. The helmets in particular, I think will be chessy and hard to take seriously http://forums2.duke4...tyle_emoticons/default/sad.gif The comics weren't great, but based on early stills and decent actors, and a director who is a fan, it could be good. I hope so.

For the record I enjoyed the first FF film and HATED the second because there was no action.

Thor looks very petulant in the pub stills ("Daddy banned me from Valhalla and was VERY MEAN TO ME!!!"). But if you look at the trailer, the film is a 'coming of age' flick so maybe that is to be expected. I think you needed someone like Brannagh, with his Shakespearean background, to pull it off.

The Green Hornet looks like fun. Purists will probably shriek and wail from the battlements, but it looks like it will be a good popcorn movie.

Yeah, if you check the trailer, he pisses Dad off (bad idea if Dad is Odin). Dad casts him out of Valhalla and he has to prove his worth.

Thor's doing well on the Internet Movie Database too: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0800369/

It's got a rating of 7.6/10.
I consider anything 6 or above watchable. 7 and above is a good movie. 8 and above is a really good movie, and 9 and above is a smoking hot must see movie.
Those under 18 gave an average rating of over 8, so my generation at least considers it a very good movie.

Looks good. I first learned of Thor and the Asgard through Stargate SG-1, so I've probably got a little background on this movie (just a guess).

Ugh, no. Having read the comic book would qualify as having a little background.

I thought Thor from SG-1 was based off of Norse mythology as was this guy. I guess they might not be the same person.

Trick question!

Who is the real god of thunder?
Thor or Raiden?

Please excuse my bump, but I finally got around to watching this movie last night.

It was entertaining, with a decent story, a good cast, nice special effects, great designs and costumes. It was a nice setup for future movies. However, I was a little disappointed. The story was too simple, with only one plot twist (which I didn't like, as I explain below) and not much character development. The action scenes were well executed and visually impressive, but not emotionally involving. Overall, it felt more like a pilot to a TV series than a movie; it even had a little prologue at the end of the credits for the next "episode".

The other thing that bothered me was that Loki's actions at the climax did not make sense to me.

I thought it was alright enough, though I've had an increasing distaste in comic book films altogether recently (perhaps due to increasing nerdery.) Though, it's actually been very common for the Marvel films to include tiny little bits after the credits, don't know if you've kept up with that or not. I can think of like five or six that have done it.

I honestly haven't seen that many of them, so I wouldn't know.
