I'm confused

Does he mean he'll give us a launch date soon?
or
They'll release the game soon?

No. They (Gearbox that is) get a launch date soon.

This is kinda the progress:
2K talking to retailers for the first time (happend)
2K overthinking the release window which the retailers suggested.
2K talking again to the retailers and talking to Gearbox about the release window
2K deciding the actual releasedate together with Gearbox and the retailers.

thx for great info!

So what are your bets guys?
My bet is 29/01/2011 - 14 years after Duke Nukem 3D has been released.
If I'm right then we're getting demo of the game in November/December 2010 (that's what Kotaku article basically promised).

I though that it might be April/May 2011 but considering how they rushed talking with retailers I don't think that anymore, personally I'm starting to think that that even December 2010 is not absolutely impossible (Do you remember that leak from April 2010 which started "I'm feeling lucky this Christmas"?).

I hope it comes out on April 1st, in typical fashion.

no it won't - GBX spokeman made it clear that they're not going to make any more jokes about it.

January or Feburary, with a demo in Novermber/December.

We'll probably get the trailer sometimes this weke.

This is what I imagine. They gotta keep the momentum up from PAX. Thats really what "Take those pictures" is all about. They want DNF to be a viral show stopper, period. :D

I share this estimate;
It also might be 29th of January (15 years after Duke Nukem 3D has been released)

@ blackharted

I think Mortal Kombat has no chance against DNF. I had played Mortal Kombat in the 90's. It was good, but today i don't like it. To much gore.

Rage will be released in September 2011, then DNF could be released a half year ago, or?

As far as I know, Mortal Kombat wouldn't really be considered to be real competition for DNF, since they're two totally different types of games. If someone wants to buy a beat-em up at around that time, they'll get MK. If not, they won't. What they'll be looking out for is the release schedules of other FPS games. This is the competition that they have to be really careful about. Releasing it at the same time as any COD would probably be commercial suicide. Even releasing it soon after. People tend to play a new COD for months before they start getting COD-fatigue and start looking at other shooters. I would think a good time for release would be away from any other major FPS. Obviously COD is the main one, but also Battlefield BC3 could ruin Duke's return, among one or two others (Rage, Doom 4).

Obviously the Duke community will all get DNF, but they're looking to release a successful game, not one that just sells mainly to a dwindled fan base of maybe a few thousand. They're looking to sell millions, which means getting lots of people to buy the game who don't know anything about Duke Nukem and/or no longer care. To us, this is a dream come true and a day 1 purchase. Most people will need some serious convincing.

About half a year of hype was Georges plan back when DNF was still being made for Commodore 64 (or wasn't is that old).

That having been said it will be March 2010. Just in time for me to get one of those 6600's

Fact is Gearbox told Jon St John that they are planning to release the game in 1st April to which JSJ said "no". If JSJ has to be believed the date is still not finalised yet, but the above intention on the part of GBX to get the game out on April 1st implies that the game will most probably come out in the first 6 months of 2011. Oh how do I know GBX said that to JSJ, because JSJ himself said it at a panel in PAX.

Let me point something out about the April 1st release date. That was 3D Realms idea. That was in the leaked documentation. They were going to release April 1st 2009, the game is actually set on April 1st in the documents. This has likely since been changed. It wasnt Gearbox's idea.

Im sticking with my gut, January/February.

Oh I Mortal Kombat (2011) will be very very real competition for any game released next year, there hyping it like crazy, returning it to its roots and maybe even arcades. :D

Oh BTW Commando Nukem you mean they were going to release on 1 April 2010
