I felt the same way, and it was stunning and disappointing to see that 3DR and Duke Nukem were being dissociated to that degree (not even being allowed to post about Duke on 3DR for some strange reason). But, the thing that really made me feel better was knowing that so many of the people who worked at 3DR are still developing the game. :D

Guess good and bad go hand in hand as it has here. Seems like Duke was abandoned, put up for adoption, and now has a family and a new home where he'll be well taken care of. Lets hope he's happy! :D

3DR did most of the work. It's only right that they get some credit. But on the PAX promotional material, for instance, the 3DR logo was no where to be seen. Of course, that could mean that it was because it was a 2K/Gearbox panel.

My hope is 3DR gets some kind of on screen recognition in the game. Be it a logo, or something in the end credits... Something.

Yes, 3D Realms should absolutely be recognized in the game credits. I'm pretty sure that they will be, especially considering the fact that 3D Realms is listed at the bottom of the new website and was also mentioned at the beginning of the gameplay segment that people were allowed to play at PAX.

Always. You come back in 10 years and this website will be here. I've already put in measures in place to ensure that this place will keep going with or without me (hopefully with me). :D

I doubt they'll squash such a well maintained fansite.

If I may say so, sir, you live up to your name.

This is a fan site, it doesn't violate anyone's copyright. Neither does eduke, which is GPL. The HRP is a bit more complicated, but I see no reason for concern. I don't recall Id trying to shut down the legacy Doom community when Doom 3 came out.

Correct, even if Gearbox didn't like the fact that Duke4.net exists (which is actually quite the opposite in reality) we'd be able to exist in the same manner that news sites are permitted to cover news on anything they please.

Which means 3DR gets money for new IP, cool.

it could all be an elaborate ruse to renew the games credibility, mainly by association with the original creators :D

I see no point in Apogee/3dRealms's existence when there is Radar Group.

Ok. Big deal. Alot of people who were big in Duke's world when the franchise was created are now at Gearbox. This was keeping it in the family. It's cool. It's cool. I'm cool right now. No violence is necessary. Everything is good. DNF is coming out. Definitely cool!

When the franchise was created? Gearbox houses a number of post-Duke 3D staff (i.e. those who either started with the Plutonium Pak or Duke Forever), but it isn't like they directly had a hand in propelling the game to great success. Aside from Allen Blum and George Broussard, everyone else left the house well over a decade ago.

As for Randy Pitchford, he joined 3D Realms because he was a fan of Duke 3D. In essence, the series has been handed over to a friend (when Pitchford joined 3D Realms) turned foe (when Pitchford stormed out in a huff, joining the people who ripped apart the Duke 3D team) turned friend again (when Pitchford spoke with Miller/Broussard again after the core DNF team walked out in 2006).

It's certainly a romantic story in its own way, but I don't really see it as keeping the series within the same family.

It's good to know that they put their differences aside to finnish something that they care about.

This was posted over at Gearbox forums, someone got audio from the PAX Gearbox panel.

Randy lists off the guys who finished the game, by name. This is worth a listen.
