I hope so. Because that new one is awful.

I agree, the old font rocks.

I think that new font is actually from the game Duke is playing in-game. It probably won't be the final logo for the game. They probably just decided to use it for PAX. :D

You know, in duke3d a bit of the cool atmosphere we all know and love was also given by small things like the hud, the the sound fx, the the cool music for each level, the the ambient sounds like helicopters flying above you or space ships making some weird jet sounds. All these elements that I mentioned here are most likely to be changed in DNF.
I mean, just try to remember the sound made by the light switches. I am sure anybody can instantly recognize that someobody is playing DN3d just by hearing that sound.
In fact I am almost sure of it. Does anybody even expect to hear dukeish music during levels or sound familiar sound fx remade to match the duke 3d ones?
I doubt there will still be duke nukem music during the levels since that's an element found only in classic fps games. Even id dumped it in doom3.
Does anybody expect music in DNF during levels? I am curious to know what you think.
Does anybody even think there will be a glass wall at the end of the level where you smash it and punch the detonation button?
I really doubt such things will still exist in dnf and I am so sad because today we are too cool have such things in games...

Probably not going to be music playing all the time through out the levels, but i could see some music playing when your driving the monster truck or something similar to that.

Think about the security camera monitors from dn3d which were like some kind of holograms inside the wall!
When I first played dn3d that amazed me and I always loved how when you exited the display fullscreen mode you could still see the image that you last saw in full screen, being pixelated on the wall.
I also liked how the display made those purple ripples when you shot at it and how it made those awesome force field sounds as the bullets hit it.
All good sequels to cool fps games have retained cool features and sounds from the old games, why do I think this one won't?

I imagine the soundtrack will be much like Half Life 2 or Prey. You'll have cues of music at proper moments.

For instance, I can see some mystery music playing when the power goes out in Duke's casino. Or some war drum type of music when the aliens start their major attack, probably some music during the boss battles. Cues during big reveal type moments.

No. And I always played DN3d with music turned off. It ruins great ambience, especially when you already have in-game music in some levels.

WTF Blasphemy!!!
The music for dn3d gives like 40% of it's ambient and mood.
Even if I played duke without music, I would still hear the music in my head since for me it's music is too tied with the maps I am playing on.
Playing it with it's music turned off kills lots of it's ambient and makes it lame. I can't believe you play it without music, that ruins so much from the experience.
I would have never imagined there are actual people that turn off the music in dn3d. Don't tell me that you play doom without music too, because I won't believe you if you did lol.

That only applies in 3 levels actually: Red Light District (with the most "silent" soundtrack in the game), Raw Meat (where the soundtrack is legendary, and shouldn't be turned off) and Shop-N-Bag (where it's a bit problematic, but not that much). You shouldn't play the game with loud music, but with low volume it actually adds atmosphere to the levels. Try Lunar Reactor and Dark Side with music, and you'll get it.

i dunno, it stops hoarding and makes you want to explore areas that bit more to see if there could be a devastator hiding somewhere, stops you relying on the best gun avail and more about the best gun you have. pistol is something you always have and makes you use it more, lets face it in d3d if you had ammo for any other weapon you didnt use the pistol.

Also in multi they could make it so you could be seen carrying the 2 weapons, I am really not to fussed about it, it plays out like an action movie, No brooding emo dickhead for a main character, and plenty of interaction from the looks of things :D

Pistol was a very useful weapon in Duke3D. It's very accurate, and was perfect to shoot at turrets, slimers, etc.

I actually like the idea of this 2 weapon thing.

I don't remember. But I was never really fond of music in FPSs. HL2's got turned off right after the first combat.

Duke Nukem 3D and Doom have some of the best game soundtracks out of any FPS ever.

I guess it doesn't really count, but having no music playing hasn't been a problem in multi-player matches and the like for very long, and it's been quite common in several games from what I know.

I LOVE fps music plus if you don't like it just turn it off. In fact the only thing I like about the whole Quake series is the music, except for Quake 4 which I like nothing about.

To get this on track ish...
Penny Arcade's news story today has a blip on DNF at PAX:

Quote

I was surprised to learn that PAX was home to a few announcements, imagining that this year's Surprise Meter had been depleted altogether. We were startled when people from our own show had asked us what we thought about Duke Nukem Forever being playable at our own show, because we didn't know that it was - our internal map for that booth simply reads "Gearbox."

Think about that for a second...DNF at PAX was so well kept a secret that even the guys at PA didn't know DNF was going to be there. That is epic.

True, lol. Or maybe they said that so they don't get asked how they kept the secret.
But I somehow believe their story, it seems very probable. Randy said they've put the Dnf banners on the gearbox in the last second so nobody that passes it gets to see what's up with it.

Gotta remember - the last one was over 14 years ago. Audio capabilities of computers have increased by orders of magnitude since 1996. It would be wrong of them to just use all the old sound effects and whatnot. Most sequels don't have such a gargantuan gap between instalments, and are thus able to reuse much of the audio in past titles (certainly sound FX). I'm sure the new audio content will compliment DNF nicely, and it wouldn't surprise me to hear some familiar audio cues here and there. As far as it just sounding like Duke3D did, I don't think it will, nor do I think it should. If I want the complete Duke3D experience, I'll play Duke3D.

I would say: They should ask the opinion of Duke fans in : duke4.net, amcwebforums.com, dukerepository.com

Let's wait and see.

I'm watching the video http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/9327658 right now

They should just have Megadeth do the whole DNF soundtrack

And you know that Dave Mustaine would be more than willing to do so as well, given his prior collaboration on music with video games (and musical video games). But that would be too awesome and too 90s for Duke Newkem.
