Around these parts, I would definitely consider Plagman more important than some lame holiday to get drunk on.

Or he was just full of crap and didn't know what he was talking about. Especially since Build uses Sector Portals and Doom uses BSD Trees. They are completely different methods of rendering. They are similar in the fact that the both end up drawing images on the screen eventually though.

I might be wrong but. Are you sure you´re not confusing Doom with Quake? Ken Silverman (who made Build) designed a sector based engine thanks to a phone call he made to John Carmack (Who made Doom engine) and he gave him the idea. So both engines share the same concept. That´s totally different than saying they have code in common, or that one is based in the other one.

The BSP trees system is what Quake Engine uses.

Agree! While I don't think my comp will run it (intel 945 mobile), Plagman gave the world Polymer. Isn't that worth celebrating him

You're right about the Quake engine, but the original Doom engine also relies on BSP trees for its visibility checks. They're both based around sectors, but their implementation is way different.

Hmmm...Interesting indeed, but how would that work in real?

Probably like this and all the other websites that do this now. Though, I was different person back then. This idea was kind of ahead of its time.

https://js-dos.com/Duke%20Nukem%203d/

Though I didn't understand the inner workings of Duke3d compared to Doom. I should have just said, they're both kind of like Build Engine games.
Sorry for the person I was back then. But I'm not sorry about this idea. It would have made money. Because clearly, it's making money now.

PS: I really am sorry about how I acted all those years ago though. It's a long story about an inflated ego bar, my art, a scam collage and MTV.

so....
basically you necroposted a 14.5 year old thread to say you had an inflated ego, BUT, to also post, 'told you so'?

I love the internet.

I'm not ashamed of this idea, just my behavior. I should have been more respectful and that's what I'm necro-posting about.

I was saying sorry for how I used to be. I remember being really cocky and somewhat rude. Well, looking up old posts I noticed this one. The idea was a head of its time, but the way I went about it was a little rude, and very cocky... So, I apologize. Because looking back at it, I don't like who I was being at the time. A lot of you were really decent people, and at least I have the balls to apologize for how I acted.

Is 14.5 years a necro posting record on this forum? I feel like it is. Will lock thread once this flurry of posts is over, but might as well have a little fun first.

In all fairness to Graphics, we know full well that a fair few of the folk here can hold grudges over petty internet things for way longer than fifteen years - and when they can't quite justify that in their head, they just lie and make things up anyway.
Talk about respect? There aren't really very many here who have managed to earn any of mine.

No disrespect to Graphics by any means, I think he's an alright guy. Resurrecting this post just seemed rather arbitrary, and unnecessary.

That much being said, we've all made posts and comments (both online and offline) that we wish we could take back later - That's just part of being human.

Look guys, I just saw this post and cringed from the way I behaved back then. I didn't mean to rehash or necro-post anything. If locking this post up is the right thing to do, let's do it. I'm sorry about how I've acted and it's time to put the past, in the past. If we can delete this post, even better.

It's a nothingburger but some of us thought the necro was amusing. Locking thread lest anyone thinks there's anything else to see here.
