A while back, Joe Siegler posted this screenshot over at 3DR:

Each of these folders contains at least one .zip file, containing a prototype version of the game.

He said he tried to crack them, but he couldn't.

[Edit] See post below.

I'd love to search that Build stuff. I'd bet on the Duke3D folder being a goldmine of material.

ooh, a doom beta! I wonder which one this might be. That shouldn't need cracking as the binary never had a .diz check.

As for the zip password yeah an encryption check with the file_id.diz would be best.
He could probably release the betas of the freeware liberated ones, but have the ones still selling offered as binary patches.

I drafted a letter to email to Joe Siegler. Please hit this hard with constructive criticism before I send it to him.

I've tried to argue in advance against any arguments he could put forth against my proposal. If you have any more, help me out.

I checked it out quick, you should know that I actualy (for fun) e-mailed Monolith about releasing the Blood source code, I hope that if I tell them that I am dying, they will consider it!

FYI, Matt Saettler has the source code, but he's the kind of guy who won't do anything unless authorization is in writing (and rightly so).

Doesn't Atari have the Blood source code?

Atari: "Huh? What's Blood?"

Lol, when I checked Monolith's site, their first made game was blood, they have the rights to all of the software and media, so why would someone else have the source code? Perhaps a copy of it?

Matt Saettler worked on Blood, and GT Interactive was bought by Infogrames which became Atari. Atari wouldn't have the source, but they have the rights to the Blood source code, the add-ons, etc.

The Blood Source code doesn't exist, it is a figment of our imagination.

Very well thought out e-mail. Though while Joe had these at one point he may not now. Even if he did it really comes down to getting the permission from George to do so.

The Strife and Blake Stone betas could be interesting. Even though I never really enjoyed playing Blake Stone that much, it always fascinated me for some reason.

I do not have permission to do that, nor are you going to get it from those who have it, either.

There are legal issues you're not aware of which prevent that.

At least he provided an explanation instead of just saying "No".

Can't help but wonder what these legal issues are (anything more than standard copyright).

Sorry for the little bump, but after going around the net a bit I noticed all of these old sites about the Blood source code; the sites are called "The blood source code petition", all from the old years. I can't believe that these were all abondoned. I want to have a talk with Matt and try to get the source, perhaps a long suttle chat about rights and the selfishness of keeping such a valuble "treasure" should get it into the right hands.

I wish you the best of luck with that IMO futile endeavor.

So I decided to send Matt a friend request via Facebook.

Number of downloads: 217

If he and I discuss anymore, please be prepared and give me pointers of what I should say; for god sakes this may be the moment we have been waiting for.

Well, after a small talk with him, he said he does not have the blood source, and he said that he doesn't know who has it either. Guys, if Monolith gave the rights to someone else, what are we going to do? For the first time ever I am angry and sad over some video game. Looks like we are going to have to all buy ourselves a DOS computer and live like that if we want it to run nativley.

Indeed. He has the source but he's probably sick of hearing about it because it's not his decision to make.

Heh. I meant he doesn't have the rights to release the source ^^.

You accepted his bribe?

C'mon fans! let's get together, enough money, a petition and let's buy that source code off them!
