When I first used Mapster32 with Ion Fury some time ago, I noticed that several on-screen help messages would appear in various contexts, including the complete SE and ST tag references. It was much more verbose than the Duke3D version. This video of one of the developers demonstrates it: Max Ylitalo - Added Features.
I recently started using Mapster32 for Ion Fury again, but none of these messages appear anymore. The new keyboard shortcuts shown in the video don’t work either.
I downloaded Mapster32 from: https://furymap.lerppu.net/, unzipped the relevant version (tested both with and without the DLC) in the game folder, and the version number displayed in the program at the bottom right is: r10470[fury]-4b299dde9.
Here are the errors I get:
In 2D mode, when pressing one of the help keys:
- F1:
Quote
m32help.hlp invalid or not found! - F9:
Quote
"sthelp.hlp" not found.
In 3D mode, after enabling SE and ST help (F6 and F7):
- When pointing the mouse to a SE sprite:
Quote
ERROR: file "sehelp.hlp" not found. - When pointing to a sector's ground or ceiling:
Quote
ERROR: file "sthelp.hlp" not found.
These files are indeed missing from the game directory. I tried reinstalling and re-downloading Mapster32, but nothing changed.
While writing this post, it occurred to me to search for the files online, and I found them in the game's Git repository. I could download them manually, but I’d like to understand what’s going on, because everything used to work before, and I’m concerned other features might also be missing.
Do you know why the help messages stopped appearing? If I download the files from the repository, which script or configuration do I need to restore the new keyboard shortcuts (for setting xvel, yvel, zvel, owner and blend) and to make sure all the Ion Fury–specific features are properly enabled?
Thank you for reading my post!
