Honestly this. I agree. If the situation is so bleak and everything is sO wOkE now, why not make your own indie fps character which borrows influence from Duke's character.
For me, despite how much I like Duke3D, the character and the one lines were always more of a cherry on a cake and it's the gameplay and especially the ahead-of-its-time level design of the game that actually mattered to me.

Frankly, most players don't give a crap about having politics in their video games. Mind you, this doesn't mean I don't want to see any one-liners or references in a new Duke (or Duke-alike) game. Just that I want to see the gameplay and level design be the actual focus.

I'll just go back to my previous point and just say that people should write whatever characters they want and the community will decide if they'll embrace or reject said characters. Policing the creativity of others is what creates the staleness that we see today in the industry, and which 'side' it leans to never matters. Spite is actually ruining media because most people don't bother to tell intricate stories or well thought-out messages anymore, you know, projects with actual nuance. They just want to dunk and step on people they hate in the corniest way fucking possible lmao.
So many shows, games, videos and music being made nowadays for the sole purpose of being hateful and reactionary. It's so lame and cliche at this point that it just goes to show how some are so out of touch.

This culture war bs is lame. Don't fall for it, actually make a difference and make something people want to consume and get inspired by, not some bottled-up anger projection shitfest that's bound to attract the worst kind of people imaginable into your community, and still achieve nothing in the end.
