Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster is out

I couldn't find a topic that was about SWDF but not The Force Engine, so here goes:

At 8:45 he mentions "a playable version of an old Dark Forces demo" included as bonus content, which I'm assuming is the "lost" level aboard a Star Destroyer? It is described in this FAQ:

Quote

8.5 What happened to the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Mission?
===============================================================
The DF box shows a Mission aboard an Imperial-class STD that doesn't appear
in the game. Daron Stinnett has this to say:
Originally, that was our first level. It was a really well designed
level, but we decided that it was too big for the first level of the
game. We were concerned that the puzzles were too difficult and that the
level was too non-linear for beginners. So instead we created the secret
imperial base. Much of the geometry for the Imperial-class Star Destroyer
was carried over to the Executor. But the mission was different, so not
all of the geometry could be reused.

Actually the first reactions to this are rather modest, regardless what you read on Steam.

Main reasons:
- Visual improvements are rather less spectacular
- TFE port was first and besides highres cinematics, this doesn't bring anything new to the table
- Far too expensive

I gotta agree at least with the criticism regarding the price. 30 bucks for such an old game is steep, remastered or not. There are claims this happened due to Nightdive having been acquired by Atari.

Nah, it's up to the publisher, which would be Disney.

I don't think this is any worse than asking $20 for ROTT though

I will eventually also buy it, but not for 30 bucks. Didn't buy ROTT LE @ full price, either.

Do you know by any chance if they integrated the Community Patch? It contains quite a few important QoL changes and personally, I wouldn't want to play without it any more. TFE's strength lies in its convenient and easy mod support and I don't know if the remaster lives up to it.

As far as I'm concerned, the later titles in the series (JK/MotS, Outcast, Academy) would be much more interesting candidates for a remaster. But well, one step at a time, I guess.

They Say that the community patch V3 and some Major custom levels works already on the remaster with not too many issues. At least Its what I understand.

Well, that patch is for vanilla, so it should work there as well, provided there's a way to load external files somehow.
