I really hope there is one being developed, but what would we, the Duke community, the fan base need to do? Should we all band together and ask politely for one? Like through the official channels? I remember after the terrible layoffs of 2009 (which I WISH NEVER HAPPEDED!) some people here recorded a "We want DNF" video with plans to send it to 3DR, should we try anything like that? I'm just spit balling ideas here. better then just quietly hoping.
I remember participating in the original 3D Realms forum, years before DNF was released. Back then, the community was much more open to ideas and opinions.
I remember suggesting that a Rise of the Triad 2 should have a similar feel to Call of Duty, but still remain largely faithful to the original. Of course, my idea didn't pass, but I wasn't bullied for it.
I even talked about DNF, what it could have included, but that didn't result in any scandals. Maybe because, despite many already being discouraged by the long wait for its release (including me), there was still some hope. The atmosphere was different.
But after DNF was released and most fans of the franchise didn't like it very much, talking about any new game for the franchise became like walking on eggshells.
Any slip-up and you end up suffering harsh criticism, unlike before. I also criticized DNF, but it seems that it didn't affect me as much as many others.
Because of this, at least here, it no longer seems prudent to keep saying what a new game would be like or could be like...
Since most people will say that Duke Nukem is dead or that it will cease to be Duke Nukem and will reject anyone who says otherwise, as happened to me.
But contrary to this pessimism, I still prefer to maintain a certain optimism. Because I believe that all this pessimism will only fuel the definitive end of the franchise or something worse. And that's definitely not what I want. Now, at most, I'll talk about mods.
When optimism returns for a new game, maybe I'll say something about it again.

Hmm... I don't think it's going to happen. The community will certainly reject this proposal. From what I'm seeing, there's nothing the community itself can do regarding a future game, since Gearbox still holds the game rights to the franchise.
And a dialogue between the two seems quite unlikely! Because they both seem to have very different interests!
The only thing that's possible at the moment is to make mods, whether for Duke Nukem 3D or DNF.
The most "new" thing we have at the moment is the project to restore the beta version of DNF. That one looks promising and there might even be mods for it in the future.
For DN3D, the most advanced mod in my opinion (in which you play as Duke Nukem) is Alien Armageddon at the moment.

No offense but this is wild. Duke Nukem is a fictional character and you shouldn't project it over the actual person of whichever businessman claims it the loudest. I'm sure JSJ is an adorable fellow, but he is just the voice actor, and since he has constantly been showing it in interviews that he has absolutely terrible taste I see no reason why to surrender the original writing by Miller, Blum, Replogle and Broussard. Those are the people it makes sense to associate to the character if you even really need any.

A shame. I thought if we, the fans showed Gearbox how much we want a new Duke it would be more helpful then nothing, but people here seem to not want too. I assume they, like me hate how GBX has mishandled the series, that they've become like "well they'd fuck it up anyway, what's the point?" I'd say the point is Ion Fury shows a new Duke game will work, and Peacemaker/The Boys proves Duke's attitude will work today too. I'd argue the retro FPS phase we're in also means there's no better time for Duke to make a comeback. I hope fans desire for a new game comes back.
I also say I really REALLY want John Cena to play Duke in the film.
