Duke Nukem the movie "Duke Nukem make his way to the big screen"

The producers of Kobra Kai are leading the project, under the hence of Legendary (Dune, Warcraft, etc...)

But for real, fingers crossed this turns into something. Even if it ends up sucking, it increases the odds of getting another game at least!

No he doesn't.
But they're gonna fucking do it anyway because we can't have an unapologetic hypermacho parody/homage to classic action films in the current age.

Which Hollywood does not have.
You make it sound like it's up to us, the fans, to get this right. Unfortunately, Hollywood doesn't give a shit about us Duke fans. They don't care about any fans. Hell, right now they probably hate Duke fans, because it's to their financial gain to say they do.

and we have a proverb in France : "By constantly following the wind, you get nothing but the destiny of a dead leaf" , the same for the trend as we already saw it in Duke Nukem Forever 2011, a good reason to step away from trend
Randy Pitchford will also been on the set as he already suggested, probably everyday and under every weathers to make sure it goes in the right way, just like he did for the Borderlands movie which teasers already got great reactions from the press

My guess is because it simply just took this long. As I recall the film rights to Duke Nukem have been circling around Hollywood since at least the early 2000s.

It's bad enough trying to get a new Duke game. Who knows what affect this movie will have?

Maybe they can get Idris Elba?

Randy shouldn't be on set at all; the King of Grease should be more worried about his precious Borderlands movie instead of trying to micromanage a property he's done nothing with since 2011 (Duke having a glorified extended cameo in Bulletstorm doesn't count). Get Joe, Scott, Alan and Todd involved instead, the people who actually put Duke on the map in the first place. And DO NOT pull a Max Payne and change fundamental details.

I think it'll be worse. Much worse.
I also think that its mere release is going to cause backwards harm to the franchise.

The only good thing is that the Cobra Kai guys are involved. They were pretty brilliant in how they brought Karate Kid into the modern era; All the old guys are written in such a way that the new characters can blow them off as bigoted old men who don't know any better, so they actually get away with quite a bit of politically incorrect shit by pretending that's the bad guy's stance or whatever.
However, I think if that is the route they take Duke, more of like a Johnny Bravo thing where everyone blows him off as an idiot.... That's the only way it might work but I have my doubts Hollywood is capable of getting it right. Duke Nukem Forever got things so wrong by going in the opposite direction, because everyone is constantly sucking Duke's cock, and everyone other than Graves is dumber than him. Duke Nukem 3D, Time to Kill, and Zero Hour get it right, Duke is kind of an idiot but he's really good at kicking alien ass so everyone puts up with him.

In 1998-1999 when Hollywood first started shopping this idea around (back when names like Howie Long, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Campbell, Bruce Willis, Brian Bosworth, etc..) it made sense. Duke 3D was a smash hit. Time to Kill, Zero Hour, LOTB were all keeping the brand alive, and this huge block buster in Duke Nukem Forever was rising a huge wave of hype.
And then it died, and then they tried again in 2001-2002... Which would have been about critical mass to do it, because of the 2001 DNF trailer and the Duke Nukem community being its largest, most thriving, and overall healthiest.
Then it died, again... Then somewhere around 2005-2008 they started talking about it again... and it died... Again. That was around the time Scott Faye was involved, the Max Payne movie, etc... I've seen some of the background stuff that went on with that version... Thank CHRIST they never went with that...Awful, awful, awful shit.
and then they've burped publically, maybe farted is the more accurate term, about it every couple years... Oh yeah Duke movie... Maybe an anime? Movie, yeah, movie.
They can't even get a Duke Nukem game out there after over a decade. Guys... It's been over a decade since DNF came out.
I just don't see the point of making a Duke Nukem movie when there is no game to ride the hype train with. Even if it was a PS Vita exclusive or something. Just... A game. Of some kind. That isn't dogshit.

Gonna have to disagree, here. As a matter of fact TTK's manual straight up says Duke's not a moron. DN3D likewise never had enough interactions with anybody to gauge Duke's intelligence.
I'd argue that was one of the few things DNF got right. I mean we're talking about a guy who saved the world several times over, by himself, is a famous movie star, casino owner, and author. I mean yeah if that happens you're gonna be treated like god's gift to the planet.
Where DNF screwed up was by forgetting the parts where Duke was smart enough to read the room. He makes his one-liners and says aloof things a lot of the time, but he also knows when to shut his mouth and be serious. That's where "Douche Nukem" comes from.
Honestly, the best characterization of Duke I think comes from, of all places, Duke Nukem Advance. The dynamic between him, Graves, and the Jennys was perfect. As usual Duke would spend most of the time making his one liners and following Grave's orders, but when he loses contact in the second half of the game, Duke has to make a plan and give himself his own objectives. He stops making as many jokes and starts instructing the player on his best move. When he interacts with the Jennys, he'll banter with them if they banter first but he's focused on getting them to safety above all else.
Yes, this means Duke is a static character, and a bit of a mary-sue, but given the mission statement of the franchise, that's perfectly fine. I mean a lot of VG protagonists can fall under the mary sue label as that's simply the nature of trying to make software to entertain a single audience member at a time. Duke just owns it and drives that to 11. It's equal parts sendup as it is wish fulfillment/power fantasy. Considering he was originally based on comic books of the era, continuing the wish fulfillment/power fantasy nature of his character is not only valid, I'd argue it's essential.
The "Glorious Basterd" comic series had its flaws, some significant, but I think they had the right idea with how to handle Duke outside of gaming. Give other characters the arcs and have Duke as the ass-kicking mentor, almost like a force of nature. Now I'm not onto the passing the torch concept (unless it's to Bombshell I guess since that was the original plan), but something in that realm I think would make for an easier translation to a more narrative-driven format.
Alternatively, an origin story sort of deal, where he starts maybe closer to your Johnny Bravo idea, but through grit, perseverance, and maybe learning to heed the advice from those a bit smarter than him (Graves), he becomes the Duke Nukem we know and love, the one who has every damn right to love himself as much as he does. A man who, lest we forget, is not wearing some super advanced power armor or suit, he's just a pissed off joe with a pair of blue jeans and a shotgun. A man who loves himself so much he can eat enough bullets to slaughter a small nation.
How well would any of this translate to film? I really can't say. What I can say, however, is that there isn't anyone who can do it right. Especially not in this day and age. Even if by some miracle a true Duke Nukem connoisseur is hired to write the script, the studio execs will never allow it. All we can do is hope and pray that this project stalls and crashes like all the other attempts previous.
I apologize if this post comes off more rambly and disjointed than my usual. It's the end of the very long day, I've been awake far too long, but I wanted to say my piece on this before I forgot my point.

After all the humor in the Iron Sky movies is nearly at the same level as the humor in the Duke Nukem universe...

I don’t care what the movie will be like. I’ll have low expectations anyhow. I hope it is at least entertaining, even if it turns out “so bad it’s good”, that would be enough for me to have a fun time with it.
