Evil Dead based Build Game ?

I wondered if anyone have ever been thinking, or tried, to make an Evil Dead game using the Build Engine... there have been a few Evil Dead video-games through the years (such as a Resident Evil engine based one which was a sequel to Army of Darkness, and another action game which is sort of a remake of Evil Dead 2)

I do remember there was at least one Evil Dead TC for Duke 3D being worked on back in the day (that ended up never being released).

Now that we have the TV series to draw from, there are a ton of Ash one-liners that could be used...

Evil Dead 2 + Evil Dead 3 Army of Darkness + Evil Dead series ... not to mention Sam Raimi talked about the possibility of a new movie with Bruce Campbell

so yes, there is definitly material for a Evil Dead Build game

You could probably extract a lot of oneliners from the Evil Dead games, but also Broken Helix - numerous classic Evil Dead liners are there, but there's also great and pretty funny voicework from him there, and a lot of pretty good original oneliners as well.

I worked very very briefly on the Evil Dead TC back in the day as a "level designer."

It was using sprites from Redneck Rampage, Blood, and NAM for Gore and weapon stuff. There was a pretty good remake of the cabin as I recall, but ultimately it never got off the ground. Like about ten million projects from back then. Plus I was a shithead teenager and had no skill at all with BUILD so my "contributions" were not so good. Same around that time when I tried to help out on AWOL with Hudson.

Evil Dead/Ash would be a great fit for a build based Evil Dead game. Hell, between Blood and Duke we already have a good idea of what that might be like.

The AMC TC is around that size if you include mappers who do the occasional map as well as artists.

An Evil Dead game would somehow seem appropriate in a Build engine, I believe.

I also worked on this TC during my teens, and like you I was a shit level builder. However, I was obsessed with BUILD based games and basically owned the whole gamut of them, so I was able to assimilate Tiles from games like Blood.

Recently while at my folks house, my mom gave me a box of all my old Dos based games that had been sitting for about 20 years, and in there were all my old Duke nukem games. Upon further examination, there was a CDR titled “Evil Dead.” As you might guess, this was all the previous work we had done for the TC!! I will say, it did omit the most updated version of “The Cabin” which had been overhauled by an extremely talented map maker named “Olivier,” also referred to as qcdn3d who was working on “Duke Nukem Strikes Again.” His update of the Cabin was killer! Also missing were some of the last sprites, like the whirlpool sprite from Blood which was to be the time portal as you remember from Evil Dead 2, and the claw bridge sprite as for when Ash is trying to leave the Cabin to find that the bridge has been destroyed. Also, there were loading screens of the Cabin as I recall while the maps loaded.

In any case, if anyone has interest in completing this project, I’d love to see this TC fully realized. I do think we were too ambitious in our original intentions to do 4 episodes. It’s more likely that this could be completed as a 7 level episode, and there are maps that have been started that could be the bones for this. Also, if anyone who previously worked on this TC has any or the maps like Cabin that Oliver made, simply titled CabinOl.map I’d love to see those files. I simply don’t have the time to work on this myself these days, but I would love to bestow the project on someone who would like to finish it.

I would recommend releasing what is left of the project for free to the public. Numerous unfinished old school mods have been released in the past few years. It's fun to dive into these things and see what's there, even if it never gets finished its better than being lost to time. Just my 2 cents.

Yes! If nothing else i'd love to take that trip back in time and walk around those maps, and remember marveling at all the details.

(meanwhile he makes a big open forest area with a thousand tree sprites and calls it "the forest")

If it gets released I'll probably spend some time looking it over and maybe add more textures and models along with Polymer lighting. Just for fun or maybe to spur interest in others to help complete the TC. I guess that would depend on how far along the project is. It seems that for the last year or so my interest has been in upgrading old mods of my own or others instead of starting from scratch.

You're probably not around anymore, but you should totally release those files.
