So they put all that effort into implementing soul tethers just to retain quick saves anyway. 😂😂😂

The quicksaves are not tied to the amount of Soul Tethers you have in your inventory? If so, it's really a completely useless feature (the items, not the quicksave function).

As you can see, there are four different savefiles, autosaves, shrines, tether and quicksave.

My guess is, that they implemented their save features, but didn't remove the quicksave function inherited from the original darkplaces source. They may remove quicksave from future releases, but in this initial release they are still there.

Seems, that KP take modding very serious, all data are completely uncompressed (no pak of pk3 files) in the kp1 folder. I was able to successfully import the enemy models in Blender, seems to be pretty standard md3 stuff. Many, if not all variables, like health levels, damage potential, etc. are located in plain text files. these are even commented to a certain level.
Sounds like there are some serious opportunities for modders.

Well yeah, it's Quake at the end of the day. You'd have to go out of your way and be a real dick as a developer to block out modding on a Quake engine game.

Well, if it stays like that, I am most likely in on this one. But not before the final release, I'm with Tea Monster regarding that. Two maps are just too little. I can't start playing and then I need to wait ages before the rest is added. This way it's also easier to avoid nasty surprises if game development suddenly heads into unwanted directions.

Nobody's going to acknowledge the fact that the levels are huge?

Yeah, took me about the same time to complete as IF's preview campaign. Both also have secrets, but I guess IF comes out on top in that sense.

Finally got around to playing this. Beat the first real level.

I like it a lot, looking forward to the final release.

I felt there was a bit too much copy paste, made it a bit hard to figure out where I've been or whats new (more so when a new path intersects with an older path you were on before) but I do like that the levels are huge. They just need more unique landmarks.

I really like that texture filtering is off by default

It's on sale for fifteen quid on Steam. I still think it's a cheat to sell an early access game for 20 quid. Especially when, in the tag line they crow: "3D Realms, creators of Duke Nukem 3D, Prey, and Max Payne, presents a hard-core first person shooter, powered by the legendary Quake-1 Tech."

1. The 3D Realms that is selling this game is in no way shape or form anything like the 3D Realms who sold Duke Nukem, Prey or Max Payne. They purchased the brand name and don't even own any of the IPs. The one that they did own they somehow mysteriously lost in a bizzare legal case.

2. The 'real' 3D Realms would give away the first 5 levels or so and then charge for the rest. That is how REAL 90's shooters did it.

Seems no different than any other publisher/developer doing the same.

There's also no telling if they're going to release a demo or not when the final game is out. The whole reason for early access is to get feedback and fix the game up before its 'finished'.

I did not see there is actually a release date for this now. But Feb 25, 2021 is still too far away for me to care about this right now. And no, I will not buy an unfinished game, summer sales or not.

3DR was just publisher of Max Payne so whoever claim they made that just problematic, new 3DR included. /facepalm

Actually, my copy of Max Payne says this:

Developed by Remedy
Produced by 3D Realms
Co-published by Godgames and Take 2

So depending on your definitions of the words "produce" and "make" or "create" (or whatever the original quote from new 3DR was), that statement might have some truth to it. After all, I think it was Scott Miller who picked the name "Max Payne" instead of "Max Heat" and "Dark Justice", and he is still involved with new 3DR.

Was also unsure about paying for just 3 maps I think. The price of the bundle with ion fury seemed ok, and I wanted ion fury, so got them. Played one level so far, seems neat. Quite similar to many retro FPS in development, but seems to have an edge over them so far.

i had just enough on my Steam wallet to buy it with the sale + the discount for owning Ion Fury. Just finished the first level and had a blast :)
