Forum Errors

I'm frequently using "view new posts" button. Sometime, though, it ends with an error. Is it normal?

Sorry, an error occurred. If you are unsure on how to use a feature, or don't know why you got this error message, try looking through the help files for more information.
The error returned was:

Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show.

P.S. It started before new design.

I'm not much of a brain into these things though, Yatta would have to look into this...

I do know for a fact though, that the main site itself works the best on Firefox (preferably v2 and v3)
But i don't know if the forums have been optimized to be mostly compatible with Firefox too though... I wouldn't think so, since the forums are less customized than the main site, So i don't know if this issue has something to do with custom coding and such...

Not that the main site matters in this case at all, i am just comparing it in case the forums happen to be customized in some ways to perform better on firefox, just like the mainsite...

How frequently does this issue turn up though ..?
It could be something really simple, perhaps like simply not wanting to show a blank page, in cases of no new posts, or something like that...

It's not that frequently. But the first time it appeared there were new posts.

Do you click the link on the forums to see the new posts when the error occurs, or do you have it bookmarked or select it from your browser in some other way?

I click the link on the forums.

The reason it shows that error is that there are no new posts to display. The page works very much like the search page, hence the error "Sorry, but we did not find any matches to display. Try again and broaden your search criteria. If you were searching for new posts since your last visit, it's possible that there are none to show."

It's easy to recreate the scenario in which the error occurs. If you don't already see the error, click on 'mark all posts as read' and then click the 'view new posts link' and you'll see the error.

If you want to view recent posts (which are not necessarily new) without getting this error, you'll have to click on 'today's active topics' instead.

Ok.

I have another thing. Site login and forum login aren't the same, are they? Because I can't login into site, but can on forums.

Yeah, site and forum login are seperate, site login is pretty much only to comment on news items, and not much more than that, for now... (except for us admins, who of course also use the site login to create the news items)

I'm having problems with the logging in...I used to be always logged in and liked it that way, now logs me off every few hours and it gets annoying...and yes I did use the "stay logged" option, it just doesn't work. I.E. options are just the same as before so I don't think cookies are diabled or anything.

Does this happen on your home PC, or at work/whatever other place ..?
It sometimes happens to me in school... I dunno what exactly causes this issue though, probably some kinda security reasons/administration limitations...

It usually keeps me logged in on my home PC though...

Might want to clear your cookies and start fresh.

When you do login, do you check the "remember me" box, or does a message box appear, asking you if it should remember it ..?
Usually the message boxes don't work at all...

I did say that I use the "stay logged" or in this case "remember me" option, it just doesn't work. And now it's worse, it logs off every half hour or so. Whenever I'm distracted and come back, I find myself logged off.

Are you signing in from two different locations/computers?

Are you using "remember password" in your browser? Might want to delete that information for duke4.net as well.

It's strange that no one else is having the problem. Do you only have this happen in IE, or other browsers as well?

I don't think that's an error, but still. What is the time limit for editing the posts?

What is going on with the forum? It just crashes with too many queries or what?

I just got home and it's been working fine. Our server has crashed multiple times over the last few days because of traffic, though.

Why when I upload a new custom avatar it shows that it has been updated but displays only the old one which is streched now. However using preinstaled avatars work. This sucks!

Thanks for the bug report. Turned out to be a difference in the way IE handles commented out code versus how Firefox handles it.

Internet Explorer is a terrible browser. It doesn't follow any STANDARD protocols, and breaks anything past basic HTML.

I was once like DavoX, then one day I did move to FF and after a day I never looked back.
