  1. Hollywood Holocaust Rethinked Mega Art Dump

    31 August 2017 - 04:15 PM

Some Marmoset renders of the models I made for the HHR mod.

Models were sculpted in ZBrush, retopoed in Topogun, finished and UV mapped in Blender and then textured in a combination of ZBrush, Substance Painter and DDO.

NEW AREAS - NEW MONSTERS - NEW PROPS

They said "it couldn't be done". Some even said "it shouldn't be done". Cries of "Blasphemy" echoed through the empty halls of the Polymer wing of the Duke Community Institute. Laughing into the face of indifference, Team Misfit, forged in adversity, embarked on a vision of what Hollywood Holocaust could have looked like if computers had more RAM and per-pixel lighting back in the mid 90's...A bold revision of what could have been. This is the result. Remastered with next-generation assets, new areas and featuring a cast of millions of polygons, HHR will thrill you, chill you and possibly even fulfill you.
It’s Hollywood Holocaust, but not as we know it.

Duke Nukem is shot down over Los Angles and lands in the middle of an alien takeover. Where are all the hot chicks, and what have the aliens got planned for them? Even Duke is going to need a wide-fit boot to kick all the asses he’ll need to save the citizens of LA from the ravening alien horde.

The following are entirely innocent of any wrong-doing and have been coerced into assisting Team Misfit:
    CGPhantom, MegerDoy, Clint Basinger, Mblackwell

    Technical Notes:
HHR requires Polymer. Due to improvements and bug fixes made recently by Hendricks 266, we also require that you play with the latest version of EDuke32 (6428). There is a bug with doors, where you have to step back from a door once it's opened to progress through it. This bug should be fixed in later versions, but for now, you need to play with this version.

Although many old and creaky models have been replaced from the HRP, the brief of the project was not a complete refresh of the HRP. Some models remain that have not been revamped. Revisions have been made to reduce the impact of older assets, but with the size of the team we had, it would take another year to replace everything.

You (of course) will need to copy your Duke3D.grp file over to the project folder. Do not mix this mod in with other mods or expansions. If your computer implodes into a black hole, we won't be responsible.

The level has music, but due to the amount of ambient and local sounds, it has been disabled.

    Instructions:
Unzip HHR.zip into a clean folder
Add in your Duke3D.GRP file into that folder
Click Eduke32.exe to run the game
Make sure you check the Polymer box
Configure your controls from the menu and you're ready to play

HHR is designed to run in 32 bit and Polymer. Anything other than that will run but not look right and some features may not work.

If you are having frame rate issues there is an option to enable a feature to shut off Polymer lighting not in the immediate vicinity of the player. It causes some flickering of distant lights as you move around but it does help to keep the map playable. This feature is turned on and off with the backspace key.
  3. Classic Cycloid Emperor Model

    29 September 2016 - 02:30 PM

I'm working on making a new model of the Cycloid Emperor. I'm making this to be as close a possible to the original model by Chuck Jones.

I'm making this as I always liked the design of the classic Cycloid Emperor. I have made a previous model of the Cycloid that was more a re-imagining of the Cycloid than a reproduction of Chuck Jones' original creation. This isn't made for a particular project or mod. I just wanted to make the Cycloid!

I'm re-posting the shots from the WAYWO thread so that people aren't dinking around the place trying to find stuff.

Very early sculpt of the head of the Cycloid in ZBrush.

Low poly versions of the sculpted body imported to Blender and hard-surface claws and armour built around them.

    Feedback and ideas are welcome.
  4. M$ Shutters Lionhead Studios - Fable Legends Canceled

    07 March 2016 - 11:28 PM

Microsoft today announced the closure of Lionhead Studios - the UK studio that made Black and White. Fable Legends, which was to enter beta in the Spring, is gone. No explanation was given as to why MS have closed another long standing game studio.

Along with Lionhead, Danish stuido PressPlay has also been closed.

I still haven't forgiven them for wiping out Ensemble Studios.
  5. Modding Will Find a Way...

    06 November 2015 - 06:44 PM

I found this recently and I thought it was interesting. Maybe there WILL be a way to make Duke mods in the future?

Looks like they have been quietly beavering away on the original Duke Mod for SS3.

im sure itll come out awesome if you do!
your skills are amazing and you shouldnt let yourself get demotivated by people wanting a 1-1 copy.
imo something doesnt have to be at all, as long as it looks goods and the changes you made make sense and make the item as a whole look even better then it originally did :D
  12. Photo 09 Feb 2014 - 13:27
... i also havent done this at all a couple times. few times i just threw away the original design and completely re-designed an item from scratch inspired by references from real-life equivalents of the items.
and i too noticed people didnt reply as much to those items as to the 1-1copy items i did.
hope though you'll some day make another quake monster,
    im sure itll b...

yeah i get what you mean, about people wanting something that is 1-1 copy of original item. people dun seem to get very excited at all if someone makes something and it isnt 100% authentic, and they will nag quickly if someone makes something and it isnt exactly the same as the original.
i personally dun mind it though if something isnt 100% exact copy, and with the items for drake-m...

... like the original models, but just with more polys. He's even got one of them to share the UV map of the original mesh!
So basically you have to hobble your own work so that you are spending a lot of time 'creating' something that is completely en thrall to someone elses stuff, stuff that was produced 10 or more years ago.
That is really not what I want to ...

It was Psionic who offered to do the Hell Knight. I think he had a commercial project on suddenly, but I'm not sure of the whole story.
The problem with any of these things is that most people just want a straight 1-1 copy of the sprite/original model, but just in either 3D or more polys. Look at Capnbubs models. They have really set the community on QuakeOne on fire. They loo...
