  1. [RELEASE] Alien Abductee

    Alien Abductee continues on from Nitroglycerin and sees Duke aboard a damaged alien ship, limping its way back to their home planet. Duke was abducted and must find a way back to earth, unfortunately this ship won't turn around and even if it did, it was too badly damaged in the crash to survive the journey or re-entry into earth's atmosphere. As such, the best course of action is to cripple the ship so that it never flies again and find a way back before it's too late, the aliens probably won't treat you very nicely if the ship makes it back to their home world.

    Extract the ZIP to a subfolder in your EDuke32 directory, start EDuke32, select New Game, User Map, then navigate to the map in that directory. The music should play due to sharing its name with the map file.
    This map was designed for Polymer with dynamic lighting disabled (r_pr_lighting 0 in the console) and the other renderers were not widely tested, so those may have issues.

    Important, please read!

    As always I'd ask anyone who intends to review/host the map to leave it a few days in case any serious bugs show up and need to be fixed. Of course this map was tested, but you can never account for every single scenario - so if it breaks don't blame me, blame the guy who tested it for not testing it properly.
    Honestly it's been so long since I released anything that I actually feel mildly nervy about it now... ah well, better late than never I guess, unless it's your girl's period, because if that happens, you're fucked!

    Visibility fog is not present in Polymer in this build, compare with how this should look;

    This only appears to affect Polymer and may be due to a drill effect in the map, the one which spawns smoke and explosions. Whilst the effect could be removed, this behavior appears to be invalid when the player is not looking at (or in this case, can't see at all) the explosions. Also just noticed a possible issue with texture panning in the second (8-Bit renderer) shot that I'd have to check, there have been some strange goings on with that in both builds.
    - Checked and the panning issue existed for both Polymost and Polymer at least as far back as r4593. As nobody else is complaining about that one it isn't important to me as the panning is fine in the map's intended renderer.

    Viewscreens are also broken in all renderers, compare with r4593 which is what I made the map with;

    Whilst this is an exploit of the screens (in fact I've not seen it done before) it was their original behavior when set up this way. I can provide an example map if required.

    I do not know when this issue started as I have not updated EDuke32 in years - "Compiled Sep 7 2014 11:17:13" for r4593 - and only did so to check for such problems. I may have time to backtrack some ways and try to find where these problems started, but damn, there's like five years of snapshots to slog through. Should be able to narrow it down to a year, then a quarter, then a month I guess rather than trying every single one sequentially. I will report back if I have any more information such as tracking down the start of these issues.

    EDIT: Viewscreen bug first encountered in r4777 - just one build (in the archives) after the one I've been using for years. I swear I didn't know and it's by pure coincidence, what are the odds?
    EDIT 2: Fog issues appear in r6597.

    Some time ago there was a discussion in which I dug up and improved some old code I had written for a mod that will never be completed. This code allowed additional control over a well known feature in the game. Having had a boring few days I have made further improvements to the code in my spare time and stripped dependency on the rest of my abandoned mod. Therefore I have decided to release it as I'm never likely to use it for anything. I am doubtful anyone else will find a use for it either, but it is here in case they do or if someone has a need to run around kicking sector toilets in.

    Notable capabilities;
    • Automated smooth player positioning.
    • Multiple modes; regular with or without flush, floors, buckets, urinals.
    • Male and Female modes.
    • Simple damage system allowing the player to break things.
    • Low quality sound effects from god only knows where.
    • Overflow system, color changing water, steam, toilet paper and some random chance events.
    • Uses hardcoded timer.

    To run, simply unzip to a folder in your EDuke32 directory. Ensure there are no loose CON files in your EDuke32 root directory as they may conflict with the code or stop it from running. Load the included map to test the code out or see the included text file for instructions and known bugs/limitations.

    The included map is literally nothing more than a test map that was thrown together in like two minutes, so it is ugly as hell and serves only to test the functions of the code. There is one of each type (except any real instance of type 5; no flush) in the map including one fully destructible sector toilet.

    Various features either didn't make it or else weren't implemented well, this code was not thoroughly tested (in fact, the final revision wasn't tested at all) and there is every chance it could break at a moments notice. Some ramblings about that

    Ugh, well, have fun. Hopefully I can finally wash my hands of this project... no you can't wash your hands, I didn't put that feature in, please don't request it... right... anyway, having spent time in the engine I am tempted to return to dust off some dormant maps I have on my drive, but I really can't promise anything anymore.

    Some guy in Russia has gotten Duke Nukem 3D to run on the 80386... It's completely pointless, but I seem to remember there being a thread talking about the lowest spec hardware that would "run" the game where it was discovered (by me, I think) that 486 architecture was the minimum requirement.

    Before we go any further - this is complete rubbish and I made it as a joke, also my computer still isn't really stable enough for heavy editing so progress is slow on more serious stuff.

    Mow your lawn is a mod which gives you a 1950's suburban home, or at least, the garden around it. Unfortunately the grass has gotten long and the cats keep leaving things behind in it. It's up to you to mow the lawn - if you can stomach the horrible controls.

    Read the text file to see how things work. Extract the contents of the zip to a folder in your EDuke32 directory - call it LAWN or something - and select that in the drop-down menu when you load EDuke32.

    There is a secret exit in the map that's probably not worth finding.

    In your LPs of Build games you used WASD + mouse, right? What keys did you assign for inventory items? In some games they conflict with WASD.
