Just flexing my nuts on the Penthouse debate. Might do the rest in the future. Although I would need the source images.

Seeing the recent bump to this thread, I noted that source images have since been posted.

I can answer that one. Yes, he is using the 411.63 set of drivers, because it is the only public unified driver available for the RTX series of cards.

He was talking about a test he performed on his 1080, so I don't know if he was using the brand new drivers on his 1080.

    ^ I'm lost.
Help please, in English slang: what does punting mean then? I understood it as putting Vulkan on the sidelines for now, since it's implementation for RTX would require the 2080 cards for starters?

In American football, punting is kicking the ball away.

Do you have the new 411.63 drivers that came out a few days ago? I suspect it may take a while before Nvidia backports support for it to the 10 series. But it might come in time.

How many of you guys plan on buying a 20xx card? Vulkan RT extensions are only supported on 2080/2080 ti(and soon 2070) hardware right now, and I don't see that it has a fallback layer. I have no problems switching over if you guys are planning on buying the hardware, otherwise I can create a Vulkan RT based renderer but you guys won't be able to run it :).

The current Steam hardware survey says 3% of users have a GTX 1080 currently.

This is your project. Do as you will. But if you target the 2080, then you're likely only targeting a very small percentage of EDuke32 players.

And the point I am trying to make is that the price of a GTX 1080 Ti is never going to drop below $450~500 unless you're getting a used card. nvidia wants to do away with their GTX 1000 series cards but they don't want to do it at a loss. If you're going to go ahead with this project, don't make it into something that only works for owners of a niche range of GPU products.

A ray-tracing engine in 2018 is by definition aimed at a niche range of GPU products.

Even if you could get a new card for $500 as opposed to $600, not everyone upgrades their GPU every year, nor spends $500 on a video card.

Less than 3% of users in the Steam hardware survey have a 1080 currently.

I'd say that is pretty niche.
