Yeah, for some reason the DLC was indeed more enjoyable. Maybe because it felt more cohesive? I'd play it again just for the DLC.

I agree, and it makes sense, as the DLC was something made afterwards, and not a 12 year old, strung together game.

You seemed rather annoyed when I expressed interest in a game where Duke Nukem would be the villain.

Annoyed, yes, because Duke is a character that means a lot to me. But I don't recall going to the lengths you have. I simply stated my opinion. If I came off as too rude that only furthers what I'm trying to get across.

I reject that accusation; I tried to remain as cordial as I could, despite some of the people I have been arguing with making no such effort or. The snide remarks I have made were made in response to them, but the difference is that I have at least the honesty of not trying to pass them off as "jokes".

No, not "douchebag"; Schrödinger's Douchebag, i.e. someone who makes deliberately shitty comments only to pretend they were just joking the moment they get the slightest amount of pushback.

"Occasional miscommunication"... Oh my god, get the fuck out. <_<

Fuck you. Where were you when people freaked the fuck out because I merely pointed out that Duke Nukem tends to objectify women? Where were you when I got accused of not sounding like a "real" Duke Nukem fan for not looking back at the Duke Nukem franchise with rose-tinted glasses? Where were you when some douche nozzle decided to dedicate an entire comment to unprovokedly insult people who prefer more realistic protagonists over the mute blank slate type? I am not going to "grow a thicker skin" when others have shown no interest in doing so.

Take it from someone who used to be universally hated here. Stop. Right now. Look back at my old posts, learn from them. I look back now and despise my old posts. Take their advice, you're on the internet, thicken up that skin. This is no place for a snowflake.

Meh. Even though I am not yet fully sold on Bombshell as a character, I do not want her to go back to being Duke's sidekick.

The only way I would be fine with the two characters existing in the same universe is if they were on opposite sides; for example, after the events of Duke Nukem Forever, Duke Nukem would have become president - and a really bad one at that, as being a total egomaniac/narcissist, he wasted no time trying to reshape the world to his image - and it would be up to Bombshell to stop him. Basically, think of a parody of Wolfenstein: The New Order where Duke Nukem is the bad guy.

A.K.A: How to ruin two franchises 101.

Duke should never, I mean NEVER be the bad guy... unless it's an evil clone/Dukeinator, or a game from the perspective of the aliens. Duke is the hero, patriotism runs in his veins. It's already been established, through The Doctor Who Cloned Me, that the Duke running for president was in fact a Dukeinator, so Duke himself has no need to run for president. It was just a move by Proton to take over the country. Bombshell and Duke could make an interesting team without her being reduced to 'sidekick,' think Tango & Cash, in that they were different people, but shared the spotlight of lead character. Neither one was reduced to sidekick. There's a way it could work, but it more than likely won't, simply due to the fact the rights aren't held by the same people.

I believe that we as players should never ever put on the marketing mindset when in any way approaching the games we play and love. It's a sad fact that the future of the IP is decided by people who do measure its value by its profitability, but I find it deplorable that discussions in a fan forum degrade to a similar form of discourse.
If the community continues to produce excellent new content Duke will never be "put to pasture".

Of course us players should never put on the marketing mindset when approaching the game we love, but the cold hard fact is that Gearbox does. So in the context of the conversation, yes if Duke is to come back with new, I mean completely new, content then there has to be a profit seen. I'd love a Duke game made with just passion and fans in mind, and not money, but that just won't happen while it's in Gearbox's hands. What I'm trying to point out is the fact that Randy is blind to the fact Duke would make money. The audience that he's probably afraid of offending doesn't play games, and the controversy Duke might stir up would only draw more real gamers to the game. Put the game itself in the hands of one who cares, and Gearbox could let them make the game, release it, and profit off of it, meanwhile us Duke fans would get to enjoy a nice 100% Duke game. Everyone wins. Sure, there's a chance it could bomb, but at the very least there'd be some form of profit.

Duke is always going to be around as long as we the fans keep him around, but the fact of the matter is that no new games can be made without Gearbox's say-so. And that ain't gonna happen without some guaranteed cash. Foreseeable profit = new Duke game. Sure Randy might one day say 'Fuck it, if it bombs it bombs, I'm making Duke Nukem.' But I highly doubt it. Money is his motive, and there's money to be made with Duke, he just needs to OPEN HIS EYES and see it.

Side note on the chance Randy reads this: Put in the effort to make a quality Duke Nukem game, not some half-assed re-release/throwing him into another game's remaster. An actual game, with Duke's attitude, big guns, babes, and alien dismemberment. Put in the effort and you will be repaid, I can guarantee everyone here would buy a new Duke game if an effort was made, and with Doom's recent success there's a whole list of newcomers who would grab it because it might look like Doom. Please, I think I speak for everyone when I say: Give us the real Duke back!
