  1. Duke Nukem 3D - 91st "Greatest Video Game of All Time"

    15 August 2014 - 08:29 AM

Empire Online have put up their list of Greatest Video Games of All Time on their website as seen here:

    http://www.empireonl...00greatestgames

Duke Nukem 3D is listed at 91, which is pretty awesome. Here is the specific listing on the list itself:

Shame about the rest of the Duke games that followed it though. You can check out the entire list yourself to see the rest of the games, some I agree with and others I don't.
  2. Duke Nukem Critical Mass PSP found

    06 August 2014 - 09:14 AM

I came across this article today on Polygon:

    http://www.polygon.c...ary-of-congress

Someone came across the unreleased PSP version of Duke Nukem Critical Mass deep inside the Library Of Congress on a DVD-R. Not only that but it seems the entire game is completed and is available with source code included and a program to compile it for storage on a UMD.

Since, Gearbox don't technically "own" the unreleased Trilogy games (since they where being published by Apogee) do you think the should release this? Or keep it well away from Duke Fans considering it didn't look very well put together?
  3. Jack Hammer

    02 December 2013 - 01:37 PM

Jack Hammer is a "classic" FPS running on the Quake engine that is supposed to bring back the "90's FPS style genre". What is it about? It stars the character Jack Hammer in his mission to defeat an unknown alien-mutant attack on Earth.

Now, you're probably going to ask if it's like Duke Nukem. The answer to that question is yes and no. The game doesn't have anything Duke Nukem related in it, such as characters for example, to avoid any possible IP problems. There is however some "throwbacks" to some levels from previous Duke builds that you might notice from time to time. For example, I've created a club that resembles this screenshot below:

However, I've changed a few things such as added in new items, rooms and furniture and retextured the room so it may "feel" the same - but it's infact not.

I'm using Quake because I've been dabbling with different engines the past few weeks. I tried Unreal 1 but actually modelling and coding felt too difficult and time consuming while other engines such as Cube 2 Sauerbraten didn't have many technical guides on how to mod. Quake 1 has this huge community with loads of guides, tips, tricks and programs to help with creating mods. Just recently, a new mapping program called "TrenchBroom" was released that made mapping twice as easy with great results. I even tried Unity but mapping required modelling it in a 3D modelling program which is very time consuming.

I'm working on this all by myself - that includes designing and creating the maps, modelling and animating the weapons and characters - all in my free time. Although, I've learned the ins and outs of all the programs I need to use and I'm in the process in learning QuakeC.

Below you can check out some things I'm working on below:

There is more content to come in the near future, when I get around to showing something off which could perhaps be gameplay footage. If you would like to ask any other questions, I would be happy to as best as I can.

Edit: Credit goes to Vinny for the name.
  4. Disney shuts down LucasArts

    03 April 2013 - 10:03 AM

Looks like the end of an era for any Star Wars fans as Disney has laid off 150 people and cancelled current projects including Star Wars: 1313 and Star Wars:First Assault. This is quite disappointing for Star Wars fans including myself as First Assualt was a "Step Zero for Battlefront 3".

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened."

UPDATE: According to a LucasArts Rep, 1313 could be saved through licensing.

  5. Are the Duke Nukem PS1 games canon?

    18 April 2012 - 10:56 AM

I was thinking today about if the Duke Nukem games on the PS1 (Time to Kill and Land of the Babes) are canon or not. If so then that would mean everyone in DNF would be related to Duke somehow as all the men where killed and Duke repopulated the planet.

People say that they are set in the future after DNF but others say it's before as people praised Duke for his actions from the past (most likely DN3D). In my opinion I think they are not canon but spin-offs from the main Duke timeline (Duke Nukum, Duke Nukem II, Duke Nukem 3D and Duke Nukem Forever).

Most likely. It will look excellent on both new and old machines once it's finished.
