Topics I've Started

  1. Conspiracy Withdrawal

    09 June 2011 - 03:42 AM

    I just want to say, with the release of the game imminent, with some of you already playing, it feels so weird to see the site now. We went 15 fucking years, 15 years speculating, eating up rumors, begging for stitches of information, all the way through to downright making shit up to pass the time waiting for this game. Now that its finally here there will be no more "I have a friend who knows such-and-such who has seen..." and "read what I think the plot will be!" posts. We're all going to have to find something else to speculate over. Maybe we should all go over to the AboveTopSecret forum and wait for aliens to come down :dukecry:
  2. My Duke Symbol Bumper I'm working on

    12 May 2011 - 09:34 AM

    So I'm getting ready to cut a new reel together and I needed some generic motion graphics to throw into the mix. I quickly threw together this new Duke symbol bumper, its only five seconds long at the moment and I haven't added sound effects yet, but I plan on continuing to work on it so any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.

    Have you ever had any wishes for this bumper? let me know! and i'll try and make it happen. if you look close, you'll see the nuke symbol starts off pretty clean and gets dirtier when the bomb goes off. I started playing with shatter type effects to make it look like it was crumbling but it came off kind of cheesy...

    Tell me what you think!

    I'm going for super professional here so the sky is the limit.
  3. Comedy as opposed to action?

    11 May 2011 - 09:52 PM

    Something that has been bugging me for awhile now, is Duke a comedian? or an alien ass kicker? Because all I keep hearing is that he is "SO FUNNY!!!" saying things like "bust a gut!" to explain to someone why they should pick up this game doesn't really seem like something Duke would approve of, not to me any way. I mean, sure, Duke 3D was funny, but now that I think back to it, the game didn't start to really get 'goofy' until the atomic edition levels, with levels like Duke Burger and Babeland, they just kind of went crazy with it. In the core game though Duke was pretty friggin serious, sure he would throw out a one liner every now and then, but for the most part you weren't giggling through the whole game, you were being serious and murdering pig cops.

    I guess what this boils down to is, should Duke cut the funny crap and just become a hard core badass that sometimes says stuff from pop culture (which is my interpretation of him in the early days) or should he continue down the road he's on and eventually start doing stand up comedy? I think the way everyone is looking at him now is, he's just making fun of the pop culture by imitating it, compare that to, back in the day, when he actually WAS that pop culture, its a strange turn of the tides, he's coming from one era and landing in another.

    The best example of this I can give is the box art for both D3D and DNF. On one box you have Duke standing on top of a pile of bodies blasting an alien in the face with a badass expression on his face. On the other box you have a crotch shot of him smirking at you with this goofy "I really don't give a shit what's going on" expression on his face, the difference is striking and to be honest, has me kinda worried.

    We'll see with how DNF does if Randy decides to do another one whether or not he'll tone down the jokes or try to 'make' it funnier.

    Also I know games have been taking themselves too seriously lately, and that's been a problem that Duke is supposed to be here to rectify, but still even then it just seems to be TOO much from what we've seen, I hope I'm proven wrong, I'm just wanting DUKE, not Serious Sam.
  4. Twas the night before April Fools

    31 March 2011 - 03:42 PM

    'Twas the night before April Fools, when all through the house

    Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;

    The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,

    In hopes that Duke Nukem soon would be there;

    The trolls were nestled all snug in their beds,

    While visions of the wholesome twins danced in their heads;

    When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

    I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.

    When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

    But Randy Pitchford, and his great Duke Nukem cheer,

    As I drew in my head, and was turning around,

    Down the chimney Randy Pitchford came with a bound.

    He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,

    And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot;

    A bundle of Duke he had flung on his back,

    And he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.

    His eyes -- how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!

    His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!

    His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,

    And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow;

    The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,

    And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath;

    He had a broad face and a little round belly,

    That shook, when he laughed like a bowlful of jelly.

    He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,

    And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself;

    A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,

    Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread;

    He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,

    And filled all the stockings; then turned with a jerk,

    And laying his finger aside of his nose,

    And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose;

    He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,

    And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.

    But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,

    "Happy April Fools to all, and to all a good-night."

    Ladies and Gentlemen, I bring you the *official "Whatever happens on April Fools should go here" Topic.

    *official status yet to be confirmed or denied.
