Once they latch on, your screen almost instantly goes black (compared to about 2 times longer in the original). Most importantly, they can't be shaken off anymore even just mashing Use for several seconds.
They definitely are more frightening now!

But you can decrease fps to 200 for stabilize this situation

It did seem related to FPS, but I had vsync on (the top-right counter told me 60 fps whether I had it on or off). Is there something else I need to change?
They did seem extra grabby, where jumping over them would never work anymore.
