Map making help.  "Will we ever see a DooMbuilder like editor?"

Hi!

I might be totally off track here so please correct me if im wrong.

I made quite a number of DooM maps some years ago.

Having no prior knowlage of level editors and assisting programs i learned by myself as a teenager how DooMbuilder worked (to some lenght anyway) I got 3d floors going using Doom legacy source port as it was the only one supporting it back then.

Anyway it has been ages upon ages since i tinkered with map making. And the sudden arise of Blood has made my intrest going high once more.

I tried Mapster32 a few years ago but this editor is not at all like the DooMbuilder i come accustomed with... i was totally handicapped trying to even asemble one sector and start it in game...

Are there any good newcomer video guides out there on how to make maps for build games, especially blood?

Also are there future plans to make a more user friendly editor for the build games later on ?

Best regards!

Hey, i was like you when i started using Mapster32.

Unfortunately Duke 3D Mapping is not that popular in Youtube at the moment, your best bet to see a video explaining the tricks used in the game is StronkiTube but that will get you so far, Your best friend is gonna be the EDuke32 Wiki (http://wiki.eduke32.com/wiki/Main_Page)

And the Ryan Lennox Informational Suite (http://infosuite.duke4.net/)

When you don't understand something you could just ask in the forums and they'll try to help you

About the Editor becoming more friendly, it may happen but its unlikely the BUILD engine was not friendly user to begin with.

Back in the days, must have been around 1997-2000 some time, I learned from Brett G Mosers mapfaq. It was included on the atomic edition CD. I was an adolescent back then and I'm not a native english speaker, yet I managed to learn the basics and then some.

Those old-school tutorials were really great. If you can get a hold of them, print them out for reference. At least that was what I did back then way before the days of multi-monitor setups

Disregard the earlier comments. They seem to think you are requesting tutorials for Duke. Mapedit for Blood has slightly different controls and if you study Duke editor then you won't know mapedit for Blood.

Here is a great tutorial video to get started with the basics of mapedit.

This website is also extremely helpful in regards to mapedit

http://www.baitd.bloodgame.ru/bme.htm

And of course I would love to help with any questions you have. Getting more level editors for Blood would be awesome!

I might create a basic tutorial video myself

This goes for anyone else who is interested in mapedit. Don't hesitate to pick my brain.

I made this today. A begginer's guide to mapedit. It's more thorough than the link I posted. It will basically teach you how to create a basic map with a player start, weapons, enemies, z-motion door, keys, ambient SFX, and end level.

Unrelated... Is there a particular reason why posting YouTube videos is unnecassirly difficult on this forum? lol
