How can I make custom MIDI's?

#1

I've been working on Atomic Crisis more frequently now, and I don't really want to just steal someone else's music without their permission. Does anyone know of a free MIDI making program? I've found a few, but I don't know which ones I can trust. I just want to be able to have custom songs in my game.

I've used Sekaiju for technical tasks, but I'm not sure how good it is if you're doing real creation.

I guess people used to use Cakewalk. I personally find it easier to use a proper sequencer like Cubase (or Reason for more MIDI specific tasks). Or Guitar Pro if you're familiar with the guitar or the piano.
