^He's interested in playing the role if it's live-action. I left a comment the other day on one of his posts and he ended up messaging me. We had a little bit of a discussion about it.

Comparing to the Duke3D cover artwork, I think he could pull it off. It all depends on which version of Duke you prefer.

That was someone else in those promos. Oliver lives in the UK and he toured around Europe to promote DNF. That's what he was doing in that image you posted. Randy told him that he thought he was the best Duke Nukem that he had ever seen. I'd say if they go live-action, there's probably a chance he will be eyeballed for the role. He's a pretty cool guy and he communicates with fans. I'd much rather have someone like that play Duke than someone who's totally the opposite. It's all a question of whether or not they can make it work and the movie turns out good.

Everyone's talking about how much he looks like Duke, and he does, he's probably the best pick based on his looks. But does anyone know if he can do the Duke voice? If he can, he's perfect. But if he can't do the voice, then it wouldn't work. Someone needs to have both the look, and voice, otherwise it would come off as a poor adaptation.

Well, the voice can be done by John St John if needed, that's common to see a physical dubber with a dubbed voice after all...

Personally I would like to see an actor actually do the voice. I'm not a big fan of dubbing, except in the case of Goldfinger... anyway, I think it'd be best to get someone who can do both, that way you can avoid the Bane problem, by having the actor's voice seem louder, and clearer, than everything else going on.

If they film a majority of the movie where you don't see Duke talking, I think a Jon St. John dubbing could work. I don't think he should be over-talkative in the movie anyway.

I think the movie should be a lot like Duke Nukem 3D's gameplay in terms of action. Running, jumping, shooting, explosions, jetpack, busting through ventilation ducts, etc.

All this talk about Duke's actor being dubbed by JSJ, I just can't help but feel that it will end up looking and sounding horrible on top of it being another terrible video game movie.
The disconnect between the actor and JSJ will be too big.

The only way JSJ should be involved is if the movie is animated.

Seeing as Netflix is off to a good start with animated series based on video games with Castlevania being pretty solid and the Witcher series on the way, it would be interesting for Duke to be done that way.
Start off with a small 6 episode season showing Duke's path of destruction during LA Meltdown from the roof of the building in Hollywood Holocaust to the show down with the Battlelord in The Abyss.
If it does well, throw Lunar Apocalypse in Season 2 and Shrapnel City in Season 3.

I thought an interesting scene would Have Duke eating peyote

I have a better idea. Have Captain Dylan eat peyote, and General Graves discover him tripping out in a toilet. Then General Graves chews him out, and Dylan insists that he was totally fighting aliens in the astral plane. "Look! There's one right there!" says Dylan, pointing to a doorknob. Then he tries to attack the "alien" and trips over his own boot laces. Graves instantly demotes him to Private, to which Dylan replies "You can take away my rank, but you cannot take away my dignity!" and promptly proceeds to faceplant into a cactus.

And why not the Olsom (Olsen) twins, after all both the actresses are awaiting for a valuable script to play in since they made their professional reconversion in the civil life...

The voice should be done by Jon St. John. After all, it's not like an Asian kung-fu movie where the actor and dubber speak completely different languages and never even met each other.
Oliver Price and Jon St. John could even work together on the character, tweaking their performances and exchanging ideas until Oliver's body language and Jon's voice fit together perfectly.

Actually since Graves and Dylan showed up in the thread...

What the hell are they going to do for characters? There's really not a lot of cool characters in Duke Nukem's world. In fact there's a pretty significant argument to be made that the only character worth mentioning is Duke Nukem. General Graves is one-dimensional, Dylan is the most embarrassing sidekick this side of Ebony White, and the Holsom twins mostly exist just to die tragic deaths! Graves would be okay in a movie, but I actively want Dylan and the Holsom twins not to be.

General Graves could be fleshed out to an authority figure with common sense, and paired against another authority figure who considers regulations an end in itself because of a fundamental lack in competence.
Dylan could be made into a character that acts out the worst suggestions written in the forums for the character of Duke, and suffers plausible consequences (including getting maimed or killed) to show exactly why those suggestions were bad.
What we saw of Doctor Proton in TDWCM could also be expanded: a transhumanist scientist with such a strong desire to overcome the physical limitations of the human body that he performs unethical experiments, and when (a federal court? The military?) stops him, he decides to declare war to the extant powers, to turn the world into an "enlightened dictatorship".

Just in case anyone's tempted to tell me to write up my ideas in a 100 page script treatment: don't be difficult, I'm just playing "What if I was Boss of the World".

There's no twins or doofus sidekick but there are these:Ashley, Female EDF agent, Female senior EDF officer, Strip club manager, Steve the bouncer, General Graves, Gus the bartender, News anchor, An Assault Commander, Assault troopers, Pig Cops, Protozoid Slimers, 2 Original alien beasts, 2 EDF engineers, An EDF Weapons and gadgets specialist, Cocooned woman, Dr. Proton, Nurse Jenkins, Enforcer/Bounty Hunter, A Battlelord, Techbots and plenty of extras.
I definitely don't think that Ashley sounds like that compelling of a character with that description. An agent, an officer and a strip club manager could all be interesting characters but smushing the roles all together just indicates that she'd probably be developed in frustrating and contradictory ways, perhaps not unlike Valerian in his recent film disaster. Of course, I could be wrong.

Honestly, the fact is that Duke Nukem's entire world isn't really set up to sustain depth, and that works better in video games than in film. I don't believe Duke's ever had a meaningful relationship with any woman, at least not that I know of, and a lot of that comes down to the fact that we rarely see him doing anything with women but flirting, fucking, occasionally aiding against villains... Maybe he does have long, off-screen talks with the women he sleeps with, deep into the night about their lives and feelings. Maybe Duke subscribes to willful polyamory and not just sleeping around, maybe he's got very deep and abiding friendships-with-benefits. We don't see that though.

A possible solution, but one I doubt will be implemented, might be to give Duke a long-lost daughter who kicks comparable amounts of ass. After all, Duke has to have a couple kids running around out there. Having to connect with a young woman he can never sexualize but who has lots in common with him could provide an interesting emotional b-plot to the obvious a-plot of, you know, fighting monsters.

I think Graves is an obvious candidate for giving a Nolan-style "Commissioner Gordon" treatment, and it wouldn't even be difficult. Contrasting him with another, more unreasonable authority figure could definitely be a good plot point. Here's a premise- Duke's officially a civilian, ex-EDF, but Graves consistently brings him in as a special operative and consultant on matters of planetary security. That's gotta rub someone in Geneva the wrong way! Maybe a brief court scene ending in Duke telling the other guy to "blow it out your ass"?

In regards to Dylan, I think your idea's way too meta, not to mention kind of mean-spirited. The studio would do better to discard and ignore unwanted ideas than to mercilessly mock them. Of course, that's assuming that they pay any attention to fans like us at all, which frankly I don't think they do.

Doctor Proton though- that's a pretty damn good idea! Now that you mention it, I'm pretty sure Doctor Proton is the most compelling character in the franchise. Here's hoping they bring him in and give him some depth.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to paint Duke as some hopeless romantic, I just feel that having a female character like her would give the woman audience someone to relate to and fantasize about being.
Oh, I didn't mean that to show Duke engaging with friends and lovers would be untrue to the character, although it might be. My point was more like "Duke needs to be able to engage with friends and lovers in order to survive in a Hollywood movie."

Quote

I like that idea.
I do view my story as a sequel, when Duke is older. Whether or not it's at a time in his life where he finally meets a chick he might want to have a family with, who trumps all other chicks he has met up until that point, Or, it's at a time where he finds out he has a daughter, either scenario would introduce Duke to a life filled with more responsibility, more personal responsibility to ultimately something much more important than his work/job and that would of course be a family.
Personally I think Duke is too much of a hedonist to settle down willingly, and I don't think I see him ever wanting to be a husband or father. That's part of why my imaginary scenario involves him connecting with an adult daughter he's never met. He does have a familial obligation toward her, but he doesn't have to be responsible for her. The plot would involve the two of them awkwardly struggling to relate to each other and finally learning how to do that in a way that doesn't disrupt either of their lifestyles, but allows each of them to go forward in their beliefs with renewed confidence.

Quote

Yet I think Duke understands too, that he can't save EVERYONE. Even though he wishes he could.
I absolutely agree with that. That's why he says "damn" if he shoots a woman kidnapped by the invaders in Duke Nukem 3D. He regrets that he can't save them.

As for your script, I think there's a great character bit in the fact that Duke's first resort is violence and he pays for it, but I just didn't buy the love angle. Duke Nukem isn't about to fall in love over the course of a lap dance and neither is a professional stripper.

Furthermore, I think the fact that Ashley works reasonably well as a working class stripper helps my point that making her a stripper and an EDF agent and a senior officer is just too much for one character. I like her obvious working class background- shades of Rose Tyler! - but I think that ought to be emphasized over either a potential romance with Duke or any secret agent stuff.
