I'm heading to Vegas for 3 nights next month as part of a larger trip. Does anyone have any advice on how best to visit it within one day?
At the least I'd like to get my feet on the ground somewhere and take some photos, preferably at the South Rim since that seems by far the most scenic location, however I don't want to take the 10+ bus ride, and it seems like air craft aren't allowed to land? The West Rim looks more practical but I heard the views are inferior and the site is hyper commercialised with gouging prices on absolutely everything.
I assume there are a few Americans on here who have visited the canyon and have something to say about it?

You should stop in Mexico too, there are a lot of things to watch and live!

Like you I only had 1 day to spend there and I went to the south rim., which was closest to where I was at in Flagstaff.

Since I had only that one day to travel, visit, then travel back, it wasn't enough time to hike into the bottom or anything. Mostly just walking along the trails around the rim. The view was fine.
It probably doesn't matter which location you chose if you don't have much time - rent a car & drive to the closest and most convenient.
I didn't do any tourist stuff, just went to the south rim state park. I can get in for free, but I think normally it costs around $50 (us).
Bring your own (bottles of) water, and stay away from the rim if you suffer from vertigo - there are no (or very few) guard rails.

Just a comment about the hoover dam if you plan to visit it, when I went last December the water elevation was extreeeeemely low. It was still a cool tour and it was fun taking pictures of areas and comparing them to how they looked in DNF (spoiler: they looked pretty accurate considering the engine)

Yeah the more I look into it, the more it looks like I should just have a quick look given the time constraints, and maybe come back in a decade or so with some mates to do a more thorough exploration. At the moment I'm contemplating taking a car to the west rim since I can drive at my own pace and leave when I want.

Oh yeah I'm definitely visiting Hoover Dam. As a Civil Engineer I'm way more interested in the dam than than the canyon
