I wondered if it's possible to add extra lines to the game, and relative to this, if it's possible to only include the elements you want to change in the USER.COM (not the rest of the elements usually contained in the default file) ?

Did you bother to try it yourself before starting this topic? As a general rule, modders who want to keep all the original code write a custom CON file (eduke.con, for example) and put the "include game.con" line somewhere into it. Just keep an eye that changes you make do not conflict with the existing code and come in the proper order.

One problem you may run into when deleting or replacing existing code is that code may be tied to other lines in other CON files. It will generate a boat load of errors. If you have no experience in con coding, I and most other coders will suggest starting out by making small changes to existing code until you get the hang of it. When adding your own new code you can create another con file and name it " WHATEVER.CON"
Then, in one of the other main con files usually GAME or USER type in a line " include WHATEVER.CON " without the quotes. That will make sure your new con file runs.

I actually only wanted to change the messages that pop ingame such as "pick up shotgun shell', or the names of the levels/episodes

That should be easy enough. Just type in your replacement text in the definequote lines in USER.CON. Same thing for the episode and level names. Just be sure not to exceed the limits. 32 letters or whatever it is.
