how can we connect to a multiplayer game ?

Yang site says that only the Windows build is stable enough and well tested for multiplayer; that changes are required to make the Linux build work through Yang. Is there any way around this? Also, if I use Wine and I run the Window version on top of it in Linux, would I be able to use Yang with it?

Old MP:
Is the old multiplayer version only different in this aspects? Will it be much harder to get it up and running than the newest version? (Specially in GNU/Linux). Is there an estimation on when the new multiplayer system will work? Is the new multiplayer system completely unusable or is there a chance that I can already make it work acceptably well?
