It's a secret message from "Hotel Hell" in the original game (1996).

I wonder how Levelord would respond if he saw this secret message again.

He was less than 3 months off from predicting their official return to the Build engine.

It's probably not a coincidence. I'd wager it was at least a half-conscious effort to pick a nice round number of years into the future, and 2017 was almost exactly 20 years after the release (exactly 20 if you use the ceiling function). Sure, the game was released in mid 1996 but when the message was made they probably didn't know when they were going to release it. Then of course it's the 20th anniversary edition they came back for. Plus years with a 7 in them somehow sound more futuristic than those with a 6.
