It'll be priced at $50 but Randy will defend it saying all the work drove up the price and you're paying for all that extra content.

Randy: "The $50 is for the new content. You're getting the original game as a free bonus! We're so generous."

You guys! Bulletstorm is actually an awesome remaster very well done! Gamespot even did a comparison video where you can see the old and new versions side by side and improvement is huge in remaster...running on PC compared to the 360 version...

The only apparently change...and it makes most of the scenes look worse. A better question is who compares a remaster of a game by showing footage of it running on Xbox 360 side by side with the remaster running on a PC...apparently Gamespot sponsored by Dell.

That's videogame journalism for you.

Hey Gearbox look over here! You might learn something.

I think they tried to learn with DN3D:WT, although they clearly didn't get the point. Just like when they copied Sonic Twitter account. They can't learn a thing even when people are screaming at them.

Wow, I think this is the first time George has said anything about Duke since DNF dropped.

I get the feeling George is perhaps a little PTSD when it comes to DNF.

Reviewers logic: "Let's play and review the worst possible console version of DNF on the easiest difficulty and then judge the PC version!"

Who the hell even plays DNF on a console!?

I think the bigger point here is George Broussard doesn't like Gearbox Softwares Duke.

I think the even bigger point that this twitter exchange brought up, beyond the writing, was that we finally have 100% confirmation of what we all thought happened behind the scenes.
Straight from the horse's mouth.

Still, it's pretty sad that the game that was so synonymous with delays, ended up being rushed to market but c'est la vie. Been 6 years since DNF. l enjoyed it for what it is and it remains the second best shooter of 2011 in my eyes.

It's all there. https://twitter.com/...395951104937984

With twitter's newer layout you have to select the 'tweets and replies' column on profiles to see everything someone has posted.

I do kinda feel for Randy in a way, it seems like he can do no right despite having good intentions. At the same time however, I'm not a fan of his antics, any game his company has produced, or his direction for the Duke IP. Six in one, half a dozen in the other.

Colour me uneasy.

That "No good deed" crack reads like Randy nailing himself to the cross. I hope getting roped into that chain about nu-3DR doesn't keep George from speaking about Duke again in the future, but I can imagine he'd much rather be uninvolved with the drama and bullshit that tends to get kicked up around these guys.

I'd like to see him write a book about DNF's development, or maybe just the history of 3DR from his perspective. Say what you will of the man, i'd definitely like to hear his side of the story.

It's funny that Randy says he had more influence on Atomic when Epiosode 4 was when Duke's character started the slippery slope from serious badass to stuipid parody that ultimately led to DNF.

Edit: the whole "make proposal to Steve, not in my court" argument is sounding like he's setting 3DR up for rejection and making it look like it's their fault for not having a quality proposal.

1) The Birth Episode was pretty badass. Duke's character felt the same as it previously was, they just expanded on it and succeeded. If this was the case that led to DNF, then spin-off games personas should have been way worse/different than either The Birth or DNF.

2) In Randy's case, he wants firm confidence and that 3D Realms/Slipgate has the ability to deliver a qualitative product that appeals to a large market. It is nice though he is throwing a offer to them showing a possible third party team make a game. It just depends on what goes behind closed doors that a deal can be sealed and development can happen in timely a manner.I take back what I said bad about Randy and Gearbox full heartedly and can't wait for a future Duke game.

If you guys want to make a list of URLs of every individual tweet (which you can get by clicking on the timestamp) I have a script written to archive.is them in batches. I used it for certain previous Twitter exchanges.

^ Nah, I'd rather know how many game developers are knocking on Steve's door this very moment, for a chance to do Duke V. Randy posted a virtual open invitation right on Twitter. :D
Hell, even here on this forum alone, are enough talented people to pull it off. :D

I kinda want what Croteam did with Serious Sam and have a couple indie developers make several Duke games all in different genres.
You could have a 3D sidescroller similar to Manhattan Project
You could have a co-op beatem up
You could have a retro FPS game made by a competent team like Voidpoint (though as I've said I'd rather they make their own IPs) It could be sprite based, in the build engine, or even a slightly crude 3D game like DNF's original incarnations

There probably wouldn't be a huge AAA FPS game again, but there could still be fun had with the Duke IP

I'm also still curious as all hell as to what Duke Begins would've been.

I could picture the big AAA Duke games handled byGearbox themselves (pride & joy), then the smaller ones handle over to a smaller team of talent. But what leaves me confused is are Gearbox Pub handling all of Gearbox future main games or just the small projects while Gearbox main is srill thru 2K/Take-Two?

I want them to just do again what they did during the wait for DNF.

Make spin offs to keep us happy until Duke's big return happens. I've always believed that the Duke Nukem franchise should remain multi genre instead of just carry on as FPSs.
It would allow other genres to get some traction with Duke's name attached, when Interceptor was making Mass Destruction, I wasn't happy about it being a Top down shooter, but I was willing to try it out because a Top down shooter with Duke may be a lot of fun, but then things went to hell, Duke was gone and it was just a shit game in a genre that none of us liked with nothing to keep us interested.
It will also allow modern devs to experiment with Duke himself until they find the right kind of characterization.

My dream is to have another classic Tomb Raider style Duke game like Time to Kill, but I doubt that'll happen.

I hated Time to Kill, but a modern Zero Hour (or even a damn PC port) style game would be great too

I didn't like Zero Hour and to this day, still haven't been able to make myself finish it.

A new Duke spin off should be something familiar done well than something new done bad, Slipgate did ok with Rad Rodgers so a new Duke sidescroller would make sense.

While the character itself was the same, the tone of many of the levels was slightly different to that of the original 3 episodes. Take the first level for example, the whole thing is a pretty obvious parody of Mission Impossible. Sure, if the subsequent games had stayed at this level of parody, and kept it in small doses, then it would have been fine. However come to DNF and one of the DLC's is actually called the "parody pack".

Also have a look at the whole sex side of it. There was XXX Stacy, a pretty poor level overall but had you go through a porn shoot. Not to mention Babe Land. It was a decent level but had a parody feel about it. You couldn't imagine a level like that in the original episodes.

While there were certainly sexual references, it was almost entirely contained to that one strip club in one level. The rest of the game was pretty serious, other than the occasional girl in a secret area (not counting the pod babes which is a fairly serious matter). Likewise, most of the references to movies and things like Luke Skywalker, Doomguy, Indiana Jones were in secret areas, NOT shoved in your face unavoidably (you can't get around the "doomed space marine" in Bulletstorm for example).

Like I said if everything had kept at the level of the Birth it would have been fine, however it was certainly the first crack in the floodgates.

There are two main differences between Duke and Serious Sam. Firstly, Serious Sam started off as an indie game, so having some small extra indie game goes with the territory. Secondly, Serious Sam is viewed much more positively in the public eye, and can get away with having some potentially low quality indie games.

If the same thing happened to Duke, then it could very well contribute to a dilution of the franchise as people view it as 'yet more trash spat out by the Duke franchise'. Sure, if the indie games were high quality, like Manhattan Project or better, then it'd be fine. Otherwise, producing indie games for the sake of it would be a negative thing.

Randy keeps on comparing the WT release to the original game's release. Obviously there's not a trivial amount of differences between the two cases...

By the sounds of things, a lot of the money that went into WT's development went into the console ports, hence the high price of $20. However, even if that is the case, that does NOT mean you can cheap out on other areas like the final boss. No one in their right mind would say the final boss is actually finished, and it drags the whole product down.

He's also saying Duke it out in DC and Caribbean aren't quality expansions Posted Image

I just find it interesting that a mod two guys working on sparingly over 6 months (DNF 2013) seemed to generate a lot more hype and positive reception than Randy's official episode. Just goes to show this community does understand the character.
