Hey, I'm looking for a way to get the duke 3d map geometry into a 3d modeling program. I found a thread here were someone posted an EXE for doing it, but it didnt work. Any help is appreciated.

Your best bet is to use Polymer, noclip outside the map, and use a "3D screenshot" program than can intercept the OpenGL state and save it to a file.
Alternatively,

This doesn't provide any texturing, unfortunately.

Try Ken's map2stl. No guarantee it will work with EDuke32's v8 (extended limits) or v9 (TROR) maps.

DISCLAIMER: I have not tried any of this so I don't know if it works.
There is this thread, which you may be talking about... https://forums.duke4...-map-converter/
Which has a dead link to this application... http://map2map.soft112.com/
If it does kick out a Quake 3 map, then you should be able to export from Radiant as an .obj file, which just about anything will read.
If that dosen't work out, then if you can find an app that will convert Duke maps to Doom wads, one of the Doom map editors will spit out an .obj file. If you go this route, be warned as you may have a lot of fun and games with missing textures and Doom tryng to make sense of DN3D's animated and sloped sectors.

Thanks for the help guys, but it didn't seem to work
I've succeeded in banging my head against a wall for several hours, but that's about it
Got a duke3d.wad, but every program i download that is supposed to even open it just crashes.
This cant be difficult can it? Wasn't this one of the first engines that had true 3D? Not to mention this engine is open source. How has noone built a simple exporter for this kind of thing?
Surely there has to be an easy way to export map geometry.
as for taking an open GL screenshot. Just more crashes.
Any help is appriciated!

It was never true 3D. What map (level) are you trying to convert?

Ah my mistake,
The level is E1L1

Yeah but Polymer does convert maps into 3D objects.

That map2stl works a treat. You have to run it in a command prompt window.
Obj and STL format.
