Favourite Duke Nukem Forever Moments?

#1

Despite what the mixed to negative reception says, Duke Nukem Forever DOES have some very iconic and cool moments. So, with that said - what are your favourite DNF moments, including The Doctor Who Cloned Me content? My faves include that short sequence when Duke is fighting the Aliens in the Duke Burger while using sauce jars as cover, and the end game boss and the lead up to that.

I'd like to see how much the rumoured "uncut version" had lenght on the mines section.

Same here! I'd love to see all of the cut content from the current build, but unfortunately that is almost impossible.

Well, DNF made me a very happy man. I found the beginning portion very fun and well done, immersive and funny (to me, I know it's mostly not dug around here). When the alien invasion began it was pretty immersive, and I loved the level of interactivity. Stuff like picking up a little metal trophy and throwing it at an alien bastard, etc.

I dug the fun touches like the chica pics on computers and stuff, loved those funny arcade machines are really well done pinball machine. And honestly, I found the strip club scene pretty fun and well done. Also GTA for example had not had topless strippers yet in the series at that point, so I thought that was cool from a censorship/balls standpoint.

One touch I love is how the pipebomb works in this one, so fun. The little bit of the Duke Nukem theme it plays when you detonate it is awesome. I enjoyed a lot of the combat encounters, tough to pick the standout ones, I liked the OctaKing fight and Duke's great one-liner there.

It was just fun seeing some stuff from the DNF trailer actually in a game, though changed over time. The "What are you gonna do, save the whole world by yourself?" line, talking to General Graves, the President being involved etc. And the Vegas locations and vibe was fun and delivered for me.

Also thought the ending battle was pretty cool, I dunno I was just in a place where I was really appreciating and digging what they gave me. Kind of got chills fighting the Cycloid Emperor again.

All of these are favorites of mine as well, as well as The Strip Club in DNF and The Burning Bush in the DLC, hey I like strippers and playing with the minigames, sue me!
Also I loved the Monster Truck sections cause I'm a sucker for Monster Trucks.

The Stadium fight at the beginning though was a massive nostalgia bomb for me when I first played.

Meat Grinder from TDWCM.

Because that was the (most obvious) part where the writing took Duke back from being Douche Nukem to Duke Nukem.

In the main game he likes the twins (which IMHO the original Duke would have never done). Here he sighs in disgust when their voices come from the toy car. At the same time the lines showed some kind of parody about white trash bimbos when the twins spoke.

This is a fun/funny topic, so if I may inquire. Duke seemed to like any random woman in Duke 3D, including street walkers (no judgement implied she looked cute :D ), I don't understand why he'd turn away two attractive blondes. Sure, their airheaded-ness was played up for comedy, but I don't think it's been established that'd be enough to dissuade or even bother Duke. They at least seemed to care about and like Duke, he could do worse. It's definitely adding our own interpretation thinking we know anything about what Duke would do in a genuine serious relationship, since he's never shown that.

I dunno, I kind of like the twins. Capture the Babe mode was funny.

I deducted this from the way Duke himself acts in DN3D. Although he is a walking prototype/parody of the 80s/90s action heroes he always shows some wit, IMHO. He's not a professor or intelectual, but he's not a dumb idiot but intelligent. And when he can have any woman ... why settle for the two most idiotic chicks in the "free world".

And generally the writing went from putting down other IPs ("Armor is for pussies") to sowething more intelligent too.

Keep in mind he didn't settle for just those two women. I mean the canon is a bit wacky with say Duke's Digs, but there are a bunch of other gals involved. And in general Duke seemed to be in a very party crazy Vegas part of his life at that moment in time.

I don't know that Duke is particularly smart but rather is very strong, unstoppable, and there's humor in that and the stuff that he says. The reason he could get any woman comes down to him saving the world and him being a beefcake I think. If you notice, the women around him generally aren't real smart either so they kind of fit.

Hopefully one day it happens via it getting leaked, similarly like Half-Life 1 alpha/beta got leaked after 16years or so.

Oh wait wrong game!

Someone who can have any woman can also afford to be picky and choose which woman to be with. Maybe the Holsom twins, besides being attractive, were also the only women he found who genuinely loved him, as opposed to just wanting a share of his money.

He groaned when he drove the toy car because hearing random lines coming out of a car when you're trying to fight a war is distracting, no matter who you are.

In your altered reality maybe. In normal reality he groaned because of the contents. :D :D

Ghost Town all the way : D

It's a level that made it from early versions and it also had nice nostalgic music : P... It was the point I felt like I was playing a 90s Duke Nukem game...
Also the first battle at the stadium. The graphics there were amazing compared to other levels : O
And since it was the first level I played in the demo and after so many years I was actually playing DNF lol... I will never forget the feeling : P

But did it work? Nausea might be worth it if you ever need to restore from a backup which I'm sure everyone would love to do from time to time.

The part where General Graves say "America is counting on you". It's just hilarious that America is the one in danger here, not the planet.

Wow, DNF was like the most totally awesome video game ever. A best part? I think they were all really good. On a scale of 1-10, I think I would give it a 10. It kind of blew away any other X-Box game (shooter) I've seen thus far. The graphics were really awesome, too. I think the music wasn't very dull or repetitive. Repetitive in a movie sense, maybe, but in a game sense, it all seemed to fit when you stepped back and took a look at it as a whole. It was fun the way Lethal Weapon or Die Hard was fun. They should make a Duke Nukem movie.

- The introductory sequence in the stadium... apart from the baffling shit throwing part (thank God it's optional).
- The Hive and the alien queen bossfight.
- Duke Burger: the best level of the game by faaaar.
- I enjoy all of the DLC pretty much, it just works better than the base game.

- Duke Nukem 3D recap; the intro theme is awesome too
- Titty City; Strippers are nice
- The Lady Killer; Lobby ambush
- Ghost Town; The music was western and the mood felt good
- Duke Burger; mini-duke vs mini-pigcops on shelves
- Duke Burger; Rooftop ambush
- The Clarifier; that part where you throw barrels and two Assault Commanders come at the end

And about the Holsom Twin part. I don't think he has settled in with them, at least not emotionally (lol Duke having emotions??). Plus, he reacts to their demise like how he would react to any other women's, stuff about no one steals our chicks and how the alien turds are gonna pay. I think he genuinely was annoyed by the content of the RC Car to the point he told them to shut the fuck up. And the fact Duke felt down when Captain Dylan mentioned the Holsom twins he was unable to save them and the rest of the women that died in the Hive. More of an Ego thing than an emotional thing (Ha! Duke with emotions; well I guess he has emotion in his Bulletstorm Tour but does it count?). We get to see the side of Duke in DNF that we didn't see in the other games; where he fails.

The Duke 3d recap, the very first level, the alien queen, Titty city, the duke burger, the Valkyria music bombing phase, the monster truck levels, the fight against the power leech, the damm destruction, the final fight, and mostly the Doctor who cloned me DLC !

-Kicking off the game with a remake of the badass fight with the Cycloid Emperor
-Driving the RC car through the casino
-The entire Mighty Foot driving sequence including stopping in the wild west to pick up gas canisters
-The platforming as miniature Duke in Duke Burger with the electrified water
-The Virtua Cop homage with shooting aliens while suspended in the the lift at the construction site
-the final showing with the Cycloid Emperor, especially the openness of the battlefield and the background of the dam wreckage
-The surrealism of Titty City (ominous answering machine messages, NPCs acting weird, everything minus the pornographic stuff)

Speaking of those messages, was anyone else a little freaked out by them? It seemed like Duke was in limbo to me at that point and I thought that something bad was going to happen with the stripper at the end. There was heaving breathing on the very first answering machine that sounded like Duke might have been clinging to life in an ICU. There was another answering machine where a voice just said "Tonight...you." That whole part of the game just gave me an uncanny valley feeling and I know that it was supposed to be a dream but it felt more like a nightmare.

-Intro Sequence: Seeing Duke 3D done in animatic style was kickass
-Cycloid Emperor battle (1): A pretty neat update to the ex-final boss, though I would have preferred it if he was a bit harder. Of course, being the first boss and all that's probably unreasonable but still/
-Vegas in Ruin: Ignoring the part where it's set in the day, I actually quite liked the level, short as it was. It's pretty much just one long gauntlet of Pigs and Lizards coming at you (albeit in waves). It's kind of the point where I realized the game tries harder than most to stop you from taking cover and force you to stay a bit more mobile. Battlelord's kind of a pain, tho
-Titty City: DNF's interactivity/Ego Boosts were probably my favorite part of the game, to be honest. And Titty City contains most of the good ones in the form of minigames. Some of them are stupidly simple, others are just fun even if they show up in other parts of the game. I enjoy pool in this game, minus the short range. Regardless it's still a nice breather. The atmosphere is also delightfully strange, and as noted above, a little bit nightmarish. I almost sort of wish it went further with the dream idea.
-Duke Burger: Jar Shootout. And the platforming over the electrified water was strangely fun. Also did anyone ever take the time to read some of the stuff written on those jars? Good stuff.
-The Mighty Foot/Ghost Town/Highway Battle: I was expecting a motorcycle but a monster truck works just as well. The controls are a bit wonky, but it still is pretty fun blasting down the highway while avoiding barrels and bombs in spite of that.
-Forkstop, part 2: Mowing down pigs with the forklift was pretty fun, and I also liked the shootout in the forklift bay immediately after. I can't really explain why but I always enjoy that particular fight for some reason.
-Final Battle: Both Cycloid fights were great, to be honest. I liked how the battle got more and more frantic as the phases progressed, and even how you start from pretty much nothing until you get your hands back on the devastator.
-Dr. Proton returning at all. I confess I kind of smiled at seeing him again, even if he looked super weird.
-Duke's dialogue throughout TDWCM in general was a serious step-up from the base game. Having a few "serious" (or at least, non-joke) lines to balance out the one-liners was welcome. Plus the fact that he had other characters to bounce off of at all to make it seem like he actually exists in some capacity as opposed to a catchphrase machine.
-Me, Myself, and I: Exploring the Dukenator training grounds was fun, as was the training itself. You also got the Impregnator which is a fun weapon to fire (even if it is a bit shit), and then got to fight off all the Dukenators.
-Meat Grinder: That Daycare is creepy as hell. I always appreciate it when Duke games try to have a bit of atmosphere. And then Duke getting mad at the car was hilarious. I only wish the order the lines came in and his reactions were scripted as opposed to random. I say this because on my first go through I just had the perfect line up of call and response, only to lose it when I had to restart due to a glitch.
-The Burning Bush: Most of what I said for Titty City applies here, just to a lesser extent. Though with the added bonus of Duke's improved dialogue and banter with Dr. Valencia.
-Duke Side of the Moon: Sprint-Jumping in moon gravity is funnnn. I mostly enjoy the Alien Empress fight as well, though every time I've fought it I've encountered a nasty glitch when trying to deliver the finishing blow with the rover, forcing me to restart multiple times until it stops softlocking.
